Azelaic Acid Suspension 10%

£46!! It's about time someone did what Brandon from Deciem has done. Has anyone else tried any of this lovely lot?

Hi, I'm getting on OK with my order. My skin is dehydrated, tending to dry, reactive. Still far too see any real changes, but to update:

Lactic 10% I'm not sure is working for me. Each time I try it, my skin seems slightly less happy in the morning. Can't put my finger on how though, just a bit duller I think. I'm used to quite strong AHAs (mandelic, glycolic, malic etc) so it's not that - I think there's probably another ingredient in the serum that isn't great for me.

Retinoid 2% so far so good. Too early for visible effects yet but it's doing no harm.

Buffet. Like this a lot. I don't particularly mind if it's temporary but it definitely makes my skin look healthier when I use it - moister, plumper, glowier, etc. Works really well in conjunction with my hado lado hyaluronic serum (a PP asked which one I have and its the premium version. Lovely stuff - recommended if you want a quick fix).

Vitamin C suspension. Not sold. I've tried it a few times and it just hasn't won me over. Weird texture and balls up whatever I put on after it!

Has anyone tried the azelaic acid serum yet?

I hope this is useful for someone.

Very useful. Tbh, was only really after retinol of some variety and a really good moisturiser with a high sfp. Is the retinol good? It isnt the retinol 1% but the retinoid 2%? The retinol is out of stock atm.

I'm using the 2% retinoid - I can't vouch for it (yet!), but it's a great price to try. I used retin-a about 10 years ago and it totally trashed my skin, so I was a bit apprehensive but it hasn't caused any problems so far. Of course that may mean it's not potent enough to do anything good either though...!

What do you wear for a moisturiser? With all that acid, surely one with an SPF. I reckon i couldnt use the oils they recommend. I have enough black heads/white heads and pimples as it is!

Does anyone know if the products should be layered or is it ok to mix two water based ones in your hand first?

Pupsiecola · 29/10/2016 23:47

I've used the Vit C three times now. First time stung but fine since. No balling here.

I've been using y products now for a little over 3 weeks. I'm not sold, my skin looks much less glowy than it did and the texture has changed slightly.

I don't enjoy using them so won't be buying anything from the ordinary again. Very disappointed as the prices are so good!

That's good to know. Going to buy some retinol 1% from paulas choice and spf 50. Going to use the nip and fab glycolic and retinol at night. Will build up slowly. Have been fine with glycolic nip and fab. Am wondering if I should switch to the normal ones or still use the extreme pads which are intended for night?

Report
neveradullmoment99 · 30/10/2016 09:32

I meant glycolic AM and retinol at night.

I'm running low on my ££££ routine so thought I'd give this stuff a crack. Ordered,

Vit c 23% & HA serum
Niacinamide 10% /zinc 1% serum
Lactic 5%
Lactic 10%
Retinoid 2%

I went for the lactic because my skin seems to be going off glycolic. I think it might be a bit harsh for it these days. Not sure why, but it definitely seems to make things slightly worse, not better whereas before it made a visible improvement. I think the gentler lactic might be a better option.

I'm going to add them in one at a time, to give my skin a chance to adjust and so I can identify the culprit if I get a reaction. We'll see. I don't hold out much hope at a fiver a pop but at that price, it's cheap enough to try. If they work, I can replace my £50+ serums, so I'll be pleased.

Retyping here as you folk sound like the people to help... I just got my order from 'The Ordinary' skincare folk. I bought their 'buffet' serum, some hyalauronic acid, and some rose hip seed oil. Which order do I apply? I know the oil goes last but not clear on the buffet/hyaluronic?? Should I use both twice daily or is once enough? Also do I avoid the eye area entirely with all this stuff? Am late 30s with the start of fine lines. Thanks!!

Forgot about this thread!

nevera I use Korres yogurt extreme fluid SPF30. This is quite moisturising - although it is a proper sunscreen - so I have been using this on top of serums without a separate moisturiser. I know people look for higher SPFs, but a) the difference between 30 and 50 is tiny and b) I firmly believe that the best sunscreen is the one that you use. I don't react to the Korres, it doesn't clog/dry/irritate, it's pleasant to use, it's not too expensive or difficult to source. Win.

Pupsie you prompted me to give the vit C suspension another go. Thanks, think I have the hang of it now (apply nothing but sunscreen on top!).

Cuppa I use Buffet first, because it's lighter textured than my hyaluronic serum, but I haven't tried the Ordinary one. You might want to gradually introduce one at a time rather than go all out straight away - if something doesn't agree with you, then you'll know which it is. I would use any/all of those around my eyes.

What's good for dry, 40 year old skin? I didn't like the vitamin c stuff much, it stung.

Report
Pupsiecola · 01/11/2016 19:59

It does sting at first tea but ime after about 3 times it didn't sting at all. Obviously if it had continued to sting I'd have stopped using it.

Cheers for that, going to start with buffet followed by rosehip oil and see how it goes. Looking forward to bedtime now 😊

Hi skincare bods, I'm 37, dehydrated, few fine lines, looking for glow and plumpness. Was going to get the Vit C Serum and Hyaluronic and use both at night. Worth getting Buffet as well to use as day serum?

To avoid vit c sting, make sure face has dried from cleansing.

Everyone using Vit C - how do you fit it in your routine? I do BHA exfoliator at night and Effaclar Duo + gel (niacinamide-laden) in the morning, not sure if my skin would cope if I added Vit C to the mix.

Report
Pupsiecola · 02/11/2016 12:36

Advice I read said not to mix Vit C with niacinimide. I also read that vit C is best used in the morning to boost free radicals protection (but then I read elsewhere to use at night. Arghhh!).

AM I cleanse, then Vit C, then moisturise.
PM I cleanse, acid tone, Hydraluron, Niacinimide booster added to my nighttime moisturiser.

Then I use my lovely Darphin Intral serum when I think I need it. I think I may be slightly addicted to it though so limiting use lol. Have also just moved my Vit C to the fridge too.

ImYourWomanJonSnow · 02/11/2016 13:03

Pupiescola I take it your acid toner is not salicylic? I made the mistake of putting Effaclar after BHA exfoliant and my face was flushed for hours.

Report
Pupsiecola · 02/11/2016 13:25

It is a BHA. And I use LFP Toleriane. No flushing here.

I have just put my Neostrata SPF50 on. About an hour after my moisturiser, which I applied about 20 minutes after the Vit C. Hmmm. Strong tingling. No tingling before the SPF50. Not taken it off. Seeing if it settles. Odd reaction though? Not done that before with the SPF on over the top.

My goodies arrived today.

I am trying to restrain myself from opening it and smearing it ALL on mah face. Not that it'd be wise with 2 types of lactic, Niacinamide & vit C, mind.

Must. Be. Restrained.

I am interested to see what the textures are like though. My expectations aren't high in that area but I'm hopeful for efficacy.

My order arrived today:

  • Buffet
  • Retinoid 2%
  • Vitamin C suspension 23%
  • Matryxil 10%

have emailed them for advice but was planning on doing following regime:

AM - Buffet and Matryxil plus day cream
PM - Retinoid and Vitamin C on alternate nights (alone) - unsure where to use night cream on top as previously used alpha H and thought it worked better without cream?

Am also planning on applying all products round eye area too

I've emailed and got a regimen from them - I'll probably order it this week:
AM: Buffet. Hyalronic Acid + B5,
PM: Advanced Retinoid, Hyaluronic Acid and Azelaic Acid
Not sure what moisturiser to use with ths - any suggestions? I was using all dermalogica products but it's brought me out in a nasty rash, so switched back to an old toleriane I found in the cupboard which isn't doing much for me (although I'm using it on its own with no serum etc).
Any thoughts?
