Anyone doing wide leg trousers?

I've been wearing slim leg, tapered and 7/8ths trousers for work but have been thinking of giving wider leg styles a try, anyone else? Seen any good ones? What shoes? Do they need to have stretch?

i got some at the weekend, as I don't think I can hold out with bare ankles much longer, so I think I might need to retire my cigarette pants.

not sure about shoes though. I have some Toyshop mock-pistols but they look a bit mum-boot with a wide leg. Wondering if I can get away with Stan Smiths at work?

AM sure most heels would be fine TBH, but I can't do heels at work.

I find wide legged trousers difficult to wear to work due to a lot of footwear not going properly and heading into frump territory. I find pointy kitten heels work best.

Prefer to wear them outside of work with Stan smiths and tight fitting polo

I have wide leg 'slouch' (but they don't slouch, they are fitted through the upper legs and waist) from Next. They are a nice thick.material and fall very nicely.

However, I find I struggle to find good footwear options. Glad Stan Smiths have been mentioned - I've worn my wide leg trousers with high top black converse. No idea if this is ok or not as I am definitely not stylish. I did see someone else at work with converse and wide leg trousers as well though!

The other thing that wide leg trousers necessitate is a good fitted shorter jacket. A longer coat looks odd with the wider leg imo.

You need a fitted top for the silhouette to work.

On the shoe front you need something that is flat - trainers work really well, skipper-style flats are another, smarter option. Somehow a low heel just doesn't work ( see: all photos of wide leg trousers on the M&S web site for examples). I don't do high heels at all ever, but if you do them they will work.

Then you need to think of the length you want - cropped is very fashiony but needs confidence to pull off; down to the ground works best with a heel; covering the roof of your foot with the toes and soles of your shoes visible is ideal with flat shoes.

Finally fabric affects the way they hang. I have a pair of drill wide legs that stand away from the leg - that's quite a strong look; I also have a pair of lined polyester wide legs that hang and drape beautifully; and a pair of soft wool wide legs that stand out from the leg but swish as I walk.

niminy you sound like a wide leg expert - where do you get them from? I had a lovely grey pair from Naf naf (bought in France) that I rode into the ground and would love to find a new pair.

Yes, that's my shoe issue I bought some cheapo wide legs last year that I wore with leopard skater shoes looked great but the trousers have died now and I'd like to get some for work. That means no trainer style shoes.

Oh what about brogues?

I wore some today. I wore heels with them and a fitted, slightly lacy top.

I personally feel that brogues don't work but you have to try and see if they will work for you.

I've had wide leg trousers from all over the place. My lovely drapey trousers came from Artigiano - I know, I know, but they are beautifully made. If I had the money I would get some from Winser London. Toast (sale only) is a good source, I've had a couple of pairs of wide legs from Whistles in the sale. M&S usually has some - you just have to look carefully and/or try on. Jaeger outlet is another good source. Cos usually has some wide legs.

I'm covering a pair of forties trousers from House of Foxy at the moment - they're top of my trouser want-list.

Another recommendation for the Next 'slouch' trousers here. Wide without being too flappy and, surprisingly for Next these days, fairly decent quality material which hangs well. I'm wearing a navy pair for work today with a fitted shirt and some metallic loafers and have received loads of compliments.
