L'occitane almond shower oil...

I had my eye on this for ages after reading lots of good reviews about it. Ordered a bottle when M&S had their recent 20% off and I am... underwhelmed! I was expecting to get out of the shower with lovely soft skin but it doesn't do any more than my Johnsons baby wash (the one with baby oil added).
So now I am feeling a bit annoyed about spending £18 (albeit with 20% off) on a product that I don't LOVE! Really annoying because it smells lovely, but just seems a bit ineffective to me. Am I using it wrong?! Is there a cheaper alternative I can try next time?

I bought mine in duty free so it was cheaper, I wouldn't use it every day but it is brilliant to use if I am shaving my legs etc.

Asteria36 · 28/09/2016 11:40

I was given it for Christmas - smells lovely but it didn't set my world on fire

ppeatfruit · 28/09/2016 11:42

Well it's not too expensive IMO if it's not full of petroleum products like Johnsons stuff is. L'occitane CAN be too smelly for me.

If it's the same as a normal shower gel, what do you expect it to do?

ChickenVindaloo · 28/09/2016 14:20

Dove do a shower oil now for £2 in superdrug. Smells nicer as well.

I also hated the L'Occitane one.

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 28/09/2016 14:22

I find it good for dry/itchy skin that other things didn't seem to help.

I like the smell, too. But it's expensive, and I find it hard to use without wasting some!

KoalaDownUnder · 28/09/2016 14:26

My $$ limit for shower gel is Neutrogena Rainbath (which someone on here once said smells like dog shampoo, but I absolutely love it!! Grin)

HardcoreLadyType · 28/09/2016 14:31

Oh. I love it.

Just shows how different we all can be!

GoofyTheHero · 28/09/2016 14:33

What can you realistically expect a shower gel to do though? It's shower gel!

magicstar1 · 28/09/2016 14:55

I read about it on here a few months ago, and now I love it. My skin is so soft after using it, and the smell is gorgeous.

ChickenVindaloo · 28/09/2016 14:57

I hated the smell! It even hung around in the bathroom all day! I was glad when I finished the bottle! I actually even started a thread about products that were a huge disappointment.

ZootSuit · 28/09/2016 19:59

Fair point goofythehero! I guess I just fell for the hype because it's sold as a shower oil rather than a gel, I imagined getting out of the shower with nice soft skin and not having to bother with moisturising. It's not working out that way in real life!

Thanks for the tip chickenvindaloo I'll check out the Dove one 😊

The dr bonner almond is heavenly

mumsnit · 28/09/2016 21:21

I got the Almond shower oil as a present and found it very moisurising -smells lovely too!

Only thing I wasn't keen on and would stop me buying it is the oily residue it leaves around the shower!

madmomma · 28/09/2016 23:06

The thing I do with it that is amazing is take a Tupperware tub of granulated sugar into the shower with you, spread the oil over you and scrub it off with a handful of sugar. Skin is like silk afterwards. Obvs avoid knicker area! I wouldn't use it just for washing; it's too expensive

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 28/09/2016 23:15

I wish it were more marzipannish, but otherwise I love it

I've been using it for a good while now, and really notice a difference if I use one of the other things in the shower. Also use the Aveeno one, but that is goopier and a bit porridge smelling, but the aveeno moisturising almond oil cream is really much nicer than the shower wash thing
