Wam layering tops for office wear - recommnedations

I've been looking at the Uniqlo Heattech tops and the reviews aren't fantastic, I already own a couple of the M&S ones (Heatgen) and they aren't noticeably warmer than just wearing a long sleeved t-shirt - am after something that is actually warm in this weather before the heating gets switched on . I may need to get one of the proper thermal tops with a fleece lining? Any recommendations. I normally wear a t-shirt or think jumper with a Joules type blazer to work so something that isn't going to make me appear bulky would be great.

I appreciate today I probably should have worn boots and socks though, am wearing courts and my feet are freezing!! East Mids so not even single digit temps yet!

I actually really like the Uniqlo ones - and I'm in Scotland where it can get very chilly! I have a couple of the M&S version too and found the Uniqlo were definitely warmer. I sized down for a neater fit (I got small and I'm usually a 10 on top) and they didn't add any bulk.

Do a google around and see if you can find some bargains, last year's stock might be going for less. Wool costs money but by god it's delightful. My Swedish childhood was spent freezing in acrylic, don't know how we did it.

I am also a fan of the Uniqlo heattech, they do help keep me warmer. I also always wear a cardigan or jumper as well.

I saw your thread title and came on to recommend Uniqlo Heattech, but the vests,not the long sleeve tops. I wear them all the time in winter under 'normal' clothes. PAck down very small if you need to take them off if it gets warmer.

M&S do extra warm version of heatgen, I have one bought in the sales in the summer, but haven't had the opportunity to try it out yet.

My warmest thermal is a very unglamourous Peter storm one that is as warm a proper jumper, but it is a bit thick.

Ha, funny hugoagogo my warmest thermal is also a Peter Storm one, I underestimated how cold it was one day trip and it was the nearest shop that sold thermals, I wore it straight away.

Prior to that I was buying Uniqlo Heatechs but I'm not sure I will again. The only advantage they have is they look the most like normal jersey tops and come in a range of styles and colours, even patterns.

I also love Heattech (on the hefty side so i wear the men's ones), had mine for years and they wash up lovely. Primark's lightweight thermals are worth a go too.

I love the heatech ones, must have anout 6 scoop neck long sleeve ones (3/4 sleeve and full sleeve), suprisingly warm, thin and good for layering. Minor bobbling on a couple but they are all 1y + old and I wear one most days. I have merino baselayers for cold weather walking but they are OTT for most days and a tad itchy.

I have one of these in black. Impressed. Nice soft fabric and cosy.

I came to recommend Heatech too, I have a couple of them and I find they make a huge difference to my body temperature. So much so that I can only wear them if I'm going outside and the temperature is very low and I'm not moving too much, e.g. watching the DC play football. Otherwise I get far to hot wearing it (I am a 'warm' person though).

Also good are the Lands' End silk thermals which my Mother wore to Antarctica and liked very much.

Yes, Icebreaker are ace although expensive. They have good sales though – get on the mailing list and also check outdoor stores and TK Maxx for reduced ones.

Heattech tops come in nice colours and prints but make me smell like tinned vegetable soup, I don't know about anyone else.

Hate Heat tech tops due to the feel of the fabric.Plus they make me hot and sweaty.Love Brora thermals as they last for years if washed on a delicate wash.I layer the camisoles underneath everything and adore the v necked tops.The colours are usually gorgeous too.I do tend to buy them in the sales as they are expensive.
