Does anyone use mascara in a colour other than black?

I'm wondering whether my usual black mascara is too heavy a look for my quite minimal make up look. I wear Benefit They're real as it stays put far better than other mascaras on me, including other tubing mascaras like Estee Lauder Double Wear mascara.

But my make up is quite low key/ BB cream, neutral eyeshadows, bit of blusher or bronzer and then a nude or neutral lipstick. I look like I have make up on, but its not high impact or anything.
I'm wondering about dark green mascara, if such a thing exists in a tubing mascara (as anything else gives me panda eyes). I have mid brown hair, green eyes, pale skin.

Yes, I have a cross between indigo and dark blue. I'm told that for 'older' ladies - ie people like me - they are more flattering than black. Also I too have green eyes and the mascara does bring out the eye colour more.

It's Channel - volume mascara #27. It's not waterproof though.

WellTidy · 26/09/2016 15:34

That's interesting, I'd not thought that navy/indigo would work with my green eyes. Is the Chanel mascara a tubing one, do you know, please?

Benefit Roller Lash in dark brown. A much softer look after I was told on here I looked like Shirley off Eastenders BlushGrin

It's a brilliant mascara.

WeeMadArthur · 26/09/2016 15:42

I had my colours done and as a Summer (pink toned skin) I was advised to go for navy mascara which is bloody hard to get hold of. I got a No7 one in the end.

Brown for every day
Plum sometimes (I have hazel/green eyes, it makes them 'pop')

MrsT2007 · 26/09/2016 15:50

In fact my colouring is almost same as yours OP.

JinkxMonsoon · 26/09/2016 15:52

I'm pale and blonde and I use brown eyeshadow because black looks much too stark on me.

It's surprisingly difficult to find brown mascaras though. I'm sure you used to be able to pick up almost any brand in black and brown options, but so many mascaras seem to only come in black now.

WellTidy · 26/09/2016 16:24

Right, I'm sold! Can anyone recommend a tubing one that isn't black please, as I have smudging issues?

CharminglyGawky · 26/09/2016 16:28

I used to have a clear mascara in my very early 20's. I have dark and reasonably long lashes anyway and found that the clear mascara worked a treat for giving them a bit of volume without any possible risk of smudges.

Obviously it isn't that much of a difference especially not when compared to the black mascara I have now but I still really liked the stuff.

welltidy are you me? I keep meaning to look if they do they're real in brown for day time. I need that mascara thanks to me stupidly short and straight lashes.

imustbepatient · 26/09/2016 16:57

Wee mad Arthur, ditto on all counts! I use the boots no7 navy one too but always keep an eye out to see if another brands have brought out a navy one.

WellTidy · 26/09/2016 18:02

Omg. I've received a PM to say that Benefit do They're Real in navy and in brown. I will have to buy!

OP posts:
LMGTFY · 26/09/2016 18:30

That's fab! I can't imagine wearing navy but will try the brown.

OneManBucket · 26/09/2016 18:36

I've changed to brown as I'm trying to give up wearing lots of make up. (So far ditched blusher, foundation and eyeliner) I'm pale, blonde and have blue eyes so black mascara looks wrong without the other stuff, I use the L'Oreal million lashes in brown which does the job but is still a bit too dark if I'm honest, it's a nightmare trying to find brown mascara in basic make up counters!

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 26/09/2016 19:13

I have hazel/brown eyes and I love purple near my eyes (I have a Barry M metallic eyeliner that is gorgeous) But I cannot find The Holy Grail of coloured mascaras.
Benefit Badgal Plum made my eyes itch
KateMoss Emerald - just looked black
No7 navy is okay but doesn't thicken or lengthen so I use it first then tip the ends with black
I had a They're Real in Brown but it strangely went AWOL
The They're Real blue is a horrible denim blue not navy .

Anyone tried NYX coloured mascaras? Some bright colours but might be ok over black.

Chewbecca · 26/09/2016 19:23

I use YSL false lash effect mascara (fab stuff) & it comes in loads of different shades, blue, navy, violet and burgundy.

ChishandFips33 · 26/09/2016 20:02

I have green eyes and wear Loreal midnight purple and it really doesn't make my eyes pop! another Mumsnet win

I also have the midnight navy - good but the purple is better

OCSockOrphanage · 26/09/2016 20:28

I use navy (any brand) or charcoal. You want the definition, but no harshness.

I think I have similar colouring to you - light brown hair, green eyes, fair skin. I wear brown as black is just too much. I am not sure what a tubing mascara is though - I get Maybelline or Origins if I've been in the US recently, otherwise whatever is cheap!

Memoires · 26/09/2016 20:44

I use brown or dark brown as I have quite light hair. My eyebrows are pretty dark but black mascara is still too dark. I like the idea of indigo, think I'll ahve a look next time I buy some - certainly I think it would be gorgeous on dd.

daisiesinherfootsteps · 26/09/2016 20:55

Yes, the very budget-friendly Boots natural collection mascara in brown-black. Works well for an every day, subtle look.

IfYoureHappyAndYouKnowIt · 27/09/2016 00:07

Clinique do a good brown tubing mascara.
