trousers that are a bit like really thick leggings?

Help! I've got a long-standing problem with one of my knees and it means I really struggle with what to wear on my bottom half. I can't wear jeans as thick fabric without give presses against my knee and really hurts it. I've resorted to wearing jogging bottoms and harem pants and sometimes culottes but am starting to tire of the look and would also like to be able to look a bit smarter. Does anyone know of any trousers that are relatively form-fitting but in a thicker-than-leggings fabric that also has give?

Not much to ask I know!
TIA

My work trousers are 'bengaline' trousers (no idea either!) which means they're stretchy as anything, fit like leggings, but look like work trousers!

newdocket · 24/09/2016 09:49

oooh, they look good, thanks

Have a look at uniqlo. I have some work trousers from there that have an elastic acted waist, sounds awful but you can't tell, they're trouser material.
I also have some of their jeggings which are really soft cotton with a bit of stretch.

newdocket · 24/09/2016 09:59

Just found uniqlo ones actually. they look good. do you have the leggings trousers?

I am always looking for something like this.
No, in fact I want leggings like they were the first time round - actual trousers not the weird halfway house they are now.

LIZS · 24/09/2016 10:02

I've had 2 pairs of the uniqlo ones, sizes are variable but very comfy.

newdocket · 24/09/2016 10:04

I think I'm going to try a pair of the uniqlo ones, they are on offer at the moment, only 14.99! i am a size 10, do you think i would be an s or an m?

Look for stretch gaberdine, double knit or stretch jersey or ponte. Its matte, and thicker than normal legging material, and will possibly give a smarter look than you're after, but lots of shops sell leggings or skinny trousers made from it.

Joseph sell the ultimate version but mega ££££ (although look on The Outnet if you're willing to spend £100odd)

Pricey but will last forever, great for work and also dressed down:

Also have these, also great quality and a bargain if your size:

I can't be bothered to look for links, but I know Gap, Banana Republic, White Company and M&S all do similar, not all leggings, some made like a jegging.

TwoWeeksInCyprus · 24/09/2016 10:07

I have these jeans from M&S and they're so stretchy and comfy that they feel like you're wearing leggings. But they look nice and smart too.

H&m superstretch trousers. They're just glorified and more socially acceptable leggings.

FurryDogMother · 24/09/2016 10:09

They're leggings, but in a lovely thick trouser like material - Bonmarché Ponte treggings - I love them. Not in the slightest bit see through, and pretty hard-wearing, too.

FrustratedFrugal · 24/09/2016 12:52

I have similar knee / peroneal nerve problems and H&M superstretch trousers are the biz. Nice colors too.

Shockers · 24/09/2016 12:54

Monsoon do great thick leggings.

FrustratedFrugal · 24/09/2016 12:58

Oh, and I size up: I'm normally 10/12 but buy 14/16. A selection here, the khaki ones are my faves this year.

newdocket · 24/09/2016 14:48

thanks all. i will have a browse and see what i can find

My mum has some great navy ones from M&S and the other day I saw some lovely black ones in New Look if that's of an help.

SpeckledyBanana · 24/09/2016 19:46

I've just bought some Sainsburys TU black ponte trousers, £18 then 25% off. They look like smart tapered trousers but they feel soft and stretchy. Any good?

AtleastitsnotMonday · 24/09/2016 20:53

I've got two pairs from Zara I wear them to work they look smart, really thick and the most comfortable trousers I own.

ginorwine · 24/09/2016 21:22

Cos have some amazing ones - really thick fabric and hi stretch / Lycra content

NeverNic · 24/09/2016 22:13

I have loads from previous years from Next, New Look, Zara and Topshop. Next ones have probably been the best as they have stayed smarter for longer.

NeverNic · 24/09/2016 22:16

These look closest to what I have. m.next.co.uk/g642126s4#702885

Very soft, but don't sag.

PaperdollCartoon · 24/09/2016 23:39

Thanks for this, I clearly need something close to leggings that would be work appropriate. I have curvy legs and trousers are a nightmare.

SueTrinder · 24/09/2016 23:56

I've got Gap bistretch ankle skimmers that are incredibly comfortable. A mix of cotton and elastane so very similar to leggings but hold you in a bit more. Very smart for work.

Oldraver · 25/09/2016 00:10

I had a flyer through the door for the Countrywide store and they had some riding trouser thingies that I thought would be good as thick leggings

Never got round to trying them on
