Anyone else have great big feet and thin legs?

And if so, what do you do for autumn/winter footwear?

I tried on a few pairs of size 8 ankle boots yesterday, but the ankle holes were all huge, they flopped around like wellingtons and looked ridiculous.

In previous years I've failed to find anything that fits/suits and slipped around freezing in ballet flats in all weathers, I'm really desperate to avoid that this year. Help please!

Yes! I find lace up ankle boots the best, especially if they are slightly victoriany styled, as they seem to have narrower ankles. I have had gorgeous ones from Carvella (££) in the past, or John Lewis (super comfy and cheaper).

I buy knee high boots from Ted & Muffy (used to be DUO) where you order your calf size, but not sure that the ankle boots are any smaller around the top than anywhere else so it depends on what you want to wear.

Yep! Duck feet!

I just tried on about a million pairs of boots until I found some that fit. I've also had leather boots taken in on the legs by a shoemaker before but this is £££ so only worth doing if it's a pair of boots you know are going to be long time classics.

I've got vey thin ankles/lower legs, and if I wear skinny jeans I have to be VERY careful with footwear, because any substantial footwear (ie anything that isn't sandals or ballet pumps) makes my size 5 feet look huge because they're attached to such skinny ankles.

Me! I've just bought some sock boots - high ankle / mid calf. Think that's quite a good style for me - something that adds width at the calves

QueenSpartacusOfTheAndals · 15/09/2016 21:57

Yes, me! I love mid-calf boots but they mostly look ridiculous on me as I've got big feet and slim calves. Why they assume you need a stem as wide as a boat if you're size 8, I really don't know!

Joinourclub · 15/09/2016 22:15

Yup. HATE shoe shopping, everything looks huge hanging off my skinny ankles. Once found a perfect pair of very low rise Chelsea boots from Jones, and have spent the past 6 years trying to find something similar. Agree that lace up look best, but they aren't really my style. Luckily I've put on weight and my legs are chunking up a bit! The bright side to wright gain!

rubybleu · 16/09/2016 08:33

Yup me too. Size 7 feet and 34cm calves.

Boots with a zipper fastening on the inside tend to fit better. I have a pair of very well worn Jones the Bootmaker Chelsea boots that I can't let go because they fit nicely on my ankles!

Aquatalia at Russell and Bromley have very narrow ankle openings. Ruby Dry (the ones Kate Middleton wears) for work/going out at night & I've got another pair I've forgotten the name of.

I find good quality Italian brands better in this respect, Italian women must have slimmer calves generally.

Duoboots (who are now Ted and Muffy) have been my salvation for long boots as you can specify your calf fit measurement. But I'd still love to wear converse with skinny jeans - but I simply can't!!!

Me too! Good tip about the calf socks. It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one x
