Jeans for Autumn

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 09/09/2016 21:30

Right then. What jeans are the great and good wearing this Autumn?

I am not in any way asking because I am too fat for my super skinnies and hoping for a baggy trend. No. Not me...

I tried on a pair of jeans in Top Shop the other day that were, to my amusement, called 'Mom' and they were such a flattering fit.

The only thing that stopped me buying them was that I am 40 and old enough to remember the last time jeans that shape were in fashion (I'm sure I had jeans that shape when I was about 13). So my worry is, what would I wear with them to look like a stylish person from 2016, and not someone who has slipped through some sort of portal from the late 80s and is still wearing my old clothes?

treaclesoda · 09/09/2016 22:15

these are the ones I tried

They look like jeans MY mum would wear!

Oh. Maybe I'm stuck with skinnies then. Better stop eating everything in sight.

Those mum jeans look good.
I need high waisted, but a small waist, else I have loads of material in the small of my back, but I also need them very short.
I have always struggled to find jeans and am struggling even more now, with nothing but all these skinnies everywhere.

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 12/09/2016 08:29

I'm the opposite. Big belly, smaller bum and thighs.

I'm such a catch.

Dontyou I'm the same shape as you. It's a jeans nightmare - get them big enough round the belly and they start falling down. Get them to fit my bum and thighs and I get a camel toe at the front. Sad

nephrofox · 12/09/2016 08:36

I think the waist and leg on those are fine, but why is there always such a saggy bum? It's like they put an extra inch of material in the back of the thigh

nephrofox · 12/09/2016 08:36

(Not a stealth boast... Even the model has a saggy bum in them!)

MangoMoon · 12/09/2016 08:52

I always fill the bum and upper thigh area perfectly in that style! Blush

PaperdollCartoon · 12/09/2016 09:12

I rather like those 'mom' ones, I'd wear them. I'm 5"2 and a size 12, curvy bum and thighs, generally wedded to my super skinnies but I can get on board with this slightly slouchier look. What shoes are you meant to wear with them though, if not heels?

burnishedsilver · 12/09/2016 09:39

In the 80's, when all jeans were mom jeans, I wore them but even then (when I was a skinny little thing) I knew they made my tummy look bigger. They are definitely not good on anyone with apple tendencies.

Gap girlfriend jeans are good. I've also ordered their new 'baby bootleg' style out of curiosity. They should arrive today.

I'm still wearing the skinnies that I already own but I'm not going to buy any more. I'm sick of them.

BadTasteFlump · 12/09/2016 11:40

Oh my god those jeans would give me nightmares. I used to wear them in the 80's when I was stick thin - but I still looked like I had a mum tummy. I couldn't start wearing them again now...

rightknockered · 12/09/2016 12:09

I've given up on jeans for the time being, apart from one pair of cropped (lightly)flared ones with a raw hem. It just all requires too much thought, and I cba

Itsautumn · 12/09/2016 16:18

Ordered a pair of high waisted skinnies from sainsburys today. I like their jeans. I also got a pair of straight legged ones from gap which fit well recently. Only gripe with the gap jeans that even their long leg isn't that long...

burnishedsilver · 12/09/2016 17:49

The Gap baby bootleg jeans arrived and I love them. It's a bit strange to see that silhouette in the mirror again and I'm left with a shoe dilemma but I'm keeping them.

CandyMcJingles · 12/09/2016 17:54

Today I am wearing forever black slim jeans from next in 14R. I'm 5ft 2 and weigh 11 1/2 stone (ish) and they fit brilliantly. Sit above the belly button, hit my foot at the right lace, skim over thighs neatly, make my bum look trim. They feel sturdy.
I tried to get the cigarette jeans in store too but they only had a washed out colour and I prefer dark blue jeans. They looked good though.

Dontyouopenthattrapdoor · 12/09/2016 21:37

Mm I like the Gap stretch baby bootlegs; they look like a halfway house between skinny and boot.

I may have to order some :)

That 1st picture of the model wearing the mom jeans is a total 80s flashback moment Shock
I think you could maybe only go there if you aren't old enough to have been there first time round? !
