Where to buy running gear

I'm 7 weeks in to C25K so am going to treat myself to some proper running gear - if there is such a thing! Am sick of my old trackie bottoms and t-shirt. Where's best to buy online? Love the Sweaty Betty leggings but am not spending that sort of money when I don't know whether I'll still be at it at Christmas! Any suggestions please.

Aargh, fingers hitting comma and apostrophe instead of space bar!

I've only ever run in Saucony once, but DH (competitive marathoner) runs in them all the time and just goes half a size up. Based on that, and if the ones in the shop felt good, I'd stick with just the half size. Wear decent Hilly socks for longer distances too, one you decide c25k isn't enough and you get stuck into half marathon training Grin

Grin .... c25k just perfect! Thanks for sizing advice!

What shoes Polly. I go a whole size up in New Balance.

BikeRunSki · 11/09/2016 08:05

I hated Saucony running shoes!! Too pointy for my foot shape. But I still want up a whole size for length.

KatharinaRosalie · 11/09/2016 11:49

Oh and a tip, if you're looking for bargains, check out mens shoes - they often have small sizes on sale.

pettyprudence · 11/09/2016 19:18

I was fine in my normal size in saucony, but needed to go up a size in brooks.

A really good sports bra is essential, even if you are not large of bust.

I started c25k again in Jan (did it 6 years ago) and now I'm doing a half marathon in 3 weeks and feel v confident about it. I agree with others that 0-5k is the hardest bit. When I first did it 6 years ago I couldn't even run for 30 seconds. Reaching 5k is still my proudest running moment, will see soon if 13.1 miles beats it!

Another one just popping on to say Nike leggings. Not fussed about tops, I buy whatever's in the sale. Leggings are all Nike, I've tried cheaper but spent most of the run hoiking them up. Nike stay put. I buy last seasons in the sale, I think the only full price ones I've got are ones I had for my bday.

I'm lucky that I am small if boob and I can't get away with those crop tops, I run in just those when it's hot.

Oh my god, prudence - TOTAL RESPECT!

PollysPoppy · 11/09/2016 21:26

Prudence .... wow wow wow! You are amazing! Good luck in the half marathon .... I'm sitting shaking my head in wonder at the thought!

I like reebok running leggings.

I wear saucony and go up half a size. I had a fair analysis and was shocked to find out that I'm a significant over pronator! I found ascis too narrow for my wide foot but brooks and saucony were good.

Go you on the running front, keep going, you're doing amazingly.

PollysPoppy · 11/09/2016 22:10

Thanks Funkin - the encouragement here from you seasoned runners is fabulous!

I've done a massive order from Running Shoes - 3 pairs of trainers to try, a few leggings to try and a couple of tops - will clearly narrow them down to one of each Grin!

Panache sports bra are brilliant, way more comfy than the shock absorber and great support . Bravissimo are a great place to get fitted properly.

PollysPoppy · 18/09/2016 16:25

Got a huge delivery from Running Shoes during the week and have kitted myself out with Gore leggings (best fit) and Saucony trainers up half a size from my usual size. Haven't actually been for a run in them yet .... only around the kitchen! ... but they are so comfortable.

Thanks for all your recommendations. Still need to sort a bra - especially having spent today yanking my strap up every time it slipped off my shoulder. Did the final run of the 5k app today - 35 mins .... am very slow as that only got me 4.2k in distance but I did it and am happy with it!

Massive well done on the final c25k run! That is just brilliant.

And I am hugely jealous of your new Gore leggings and Saucony runners. I hope they speed you on!

TheLegendOfBeans · 18/09/2016 18:20

Hats off for completing the C25k. That is no mean feat xx

PollysPoppy · 18/09/2016 18:41

Thanks! Am chuffed. I'm the least sporty person ever, regular exercise isn't my thing so am utterly amazed I've seen it through .... and that's not mentioning the fact that I could barely even run 90 secs in week 1! Now I've to keep going so as I get value out of the new gear!
