Perfect skirt just too small - help

I'm having a very informal wedding in just over a week (eek!) and my skirt has arrived from asos today this one but is just a little bit too tight around the waist. They don't have it in the next size up otherwise I'd risk returning and reordering.
What can I do to fix it? Hopeless at sewing so wouldn't feel confident altering it myself.

A local dressmaker will be able to help

Honestly I'm not sure there is anything you can do. The only thing would be to add a small piece of elastic where the zip is, and maybe a hook and eye at the top to make sure the zip doesn't undo.

However, you'd need to get elastic exactly the same colour as the skirt, and it would likely be noticeable if you're planning on having the waist band on show.

Do they have your size in the regular or tall version? You could buy your size or the bigger size and have one of those taken up which might work better.

Spanx?

Try an alterations service! All it needs is a new waist band.

Alternatively these are available in all sizes (gorgeous gorgeous skirt btw!!)

Dressmaker, but not sure how they will be able to sort it.

Sometimes you can cut the existing waistband off an A line and make a new one by folding the old waist down a level, but I don't know if that would work with the ruched tulle.

Get a new one made? It looks like a simple pattern.

I'll have a look for a dressmaker and hope they can help.

Knit, that skirt is beautiful but I'm ridiculously short so it drown me!

But it would be easier to shorten than fix a waisband?

MrsWooster · 04/09/2016 18:40

Given the amount of tulle, a dressmaker shiuld be able to extend the waistband a bit. Either using the hopefuuly generous seam allowance or by making a sort of 'cover' over the gap/extender in the fastening. Maybe even a ribbon bow or ribbon flower to cover?

If it's just a bit too tight, maybe don't eat carbs until the wedding. :)
