Flattering flat footwear to wear with skirts in the winter, an impossible dream?!

I'm just in search of some ideas. I love the look of opaques and ankle boots, but they look horrendous on me and do my chunky calves no favours at all. I've got black knee high boots, but are they a but dated now?

Yes this is an ongoing problem for me. I dream of opening a clothes shop that sells "solution clothes". Clothes that work with problem outfits iyswim. Top of the list is shoes to go with skirts in the winter. Ballet shoes barely count as shoes tbh. How do you walk 2 miles in ballet flats?

My solution so far has been very low cut shoe boots. I had some great ones from Ted & Muffy last year which were cut away over the ankle so they didn't emphasise my chunky calves. They are hard to find though. The fold ones linked to below are not the same but have a similar way of being cut low.
