Flattering flat footwear to wear with skirts in the winter, an impossible dream?!

I'm just in search of some ideas. I love the look of opaques and ankle boots, but they look horrendous on me and do my chunky calves no favours at all. I've got black knee high boots, but are they a but dated now?

uggs low at front, low heel. Burnished suede might be as good as we get.

I think they are great Pestilence! The strap is probably flattering as well (I love sandles with a diagonal strap, I find it gives the impression of narrowing the foot). No idea what burnished suede is but suspect it would not be suitable for my workplace.

Not many of these are actually flat though. It's really difficult to find good looking ones for work with a long(ish) walking commute.

Loafers? I've given up looking for ballet flats that are comfortable and flat enough to wear all day at work with skirts -Because I need a very slightly built up heel not a tissue thin sole, but that seems impossible to find, so loafers it is so far for me. Though they remind me a bit of my old school shoes!

If you've got a longish walk/commute, I'd opt for comfort while you're travelling, and then change into something more refined once you've arrived.

Office has some western boots, in leather, black and brown. Not as nicely cut as the suede ones.

Oh I'm so glad you started this thread OP! cakeninja I love those shoe/boots you got - do you think they'd work with slim leg work trousers in the winter? That's where I'm stuck - I wear ballerina flats in summer but have no idea what to wear in winter.

Mawsymoo - I bought the shoes cake ninja linked to yesterday after coveting them for a week!

I bought them as they're perfect to go with cropped slim trousers, would probably look nice with skirts too although I'm not a skirts type person. I also bought some Vans socks as although pricey they're the most comfy I have found that will not show under shoes or trainers like this. These ones.

PS the shoes come in loads of colours and are leather. So comfy. I normally wear cheap ballet flats and bin after a couple of months but I want to start walking to work again.

These are flat with a dipped front. They go up to a 7 but it's quite a small 7. I tried the tan but had to return as they were too small unfortunately.

Try Foot Therapy flats. They are on the Seraphine ( maternity wear) website.

I love those studded office ones. But they only go up to an 8 . Has anyone seen anything similar in a size 9??

For anyone wanting a boot with a dipped front in leather, there is the Gabor Enfield - I don't have this but have other comfy Gabor ankle boots. Not flat though.

Also, I think leather, while much more practical, is a bit less youthful and funky maybe.

I've been searching for the last few weeks (well since last year) for some black shoes/ankle boots to wear with skirts dresses...and I also have a very long coat that just doesn't look right with the boots I have.

I've always thought of ankle boots looking clumpy (well they would on me) and have been perplexed, but yes the straight across cut is what bugged me. I'd seen the Gabor ones and a few other Gabor ones that look nice but have too high a heel.

I have a black and bright red pair of these from T.O.F.S. They are one of the most comfortable pair of shoes ever...support my arches and no wishy washy can feel the pavement soles, and look ok on their own or with opaques

I got a few nice pairs from Office in their last sale, they have a lot of loafers which are actually quite nice and good quality.

Be careful with ankle boots - they can accentuate chubby calves and if you are short of leg. Where the top of the boot ends matters.
If you are long and lean of limb you can wear anything.
