Flattering flat footwear to wear with skirts in the winter, an impossible dream?!

I'm just in search of some ideas. I love the look of opaques and ankle boots, but they look horrendous on me and do my chunky calves no favours at all. I've got black knee high boots, but are they a but dated now?

The brand formerly known as Duo (now Ted&Muffy) makes wonderful very good quality boots in any calf size you want. They are £££ but their sale is good value for money (I know that does not help just now, but hey...)

They also come up on eBay from time to time.
Measure your calf at its widest point (in cm) and see what you can find.

I also like ballerinas with a bit of cushioning/heel like these for all day comfort when it's not too cold.

Aw, this has been the bane of my life. I have chunky calves. I tried ankle boots, they elongated the chunkiness of my calves. I think knee boots on me just shout "look at my surprisingly chunky calves"! I'm now strictly on flats; brogues, loafers, ballerinas.

It depends on the shape of the ankle boot. If the top of the book does straight across it makes legs look chunkier, if you can find done with a bit of a v shape they are more flattering ( more like shoe boots than boots)

NancyM those superdry boots are lovely - have just ordered them. Totally agree with the dip at the front being far more flattering. If only they were leather instead of suede... Don't suppose you have found any grey leather, dipped front ankle boots on your search for perfection??

Those type are all I wear in the winter. There are tons on ASOS - they're using called western boots.

Only problem is they're always suede! Black leather is as rare as a unicorn.

These are lace up and will look so much better with a leg coming out of them.

Another style I'm obsessed with at the moment are these Chloe rip offs from Office.

I have these red or dead ones in black leather. Is the grey too shiney?

Last year I got a pair from monsoon that fit close to the ankle. Wire them every single day. I have narrow feet so use shoes just flap off the back of my heels.

How about calf length boots instead? I've only seen a handful of women who look good in ankle boots and skirts - tall (well, taller than my 5 foot 1), slim, long legs - even though it's the fashion, apparently.

Those are a brilliant Chloe rip off, Elspeth! I have a big wadge of Harvey Nichols vouchers and am seriously considering Chloe Susannahs but just don't know if I'll feel a bit sick afterwards. Have you seen the Office ones in the flesh?

Thanks pestilence - the first ones are nice but out of stock in all sizes, the lace up ones hurt my eyes and the shiny ones would make my big feet look like clown feet. But thanks for looking!!!

No I haven't as we haven't got an Office here so that's why I haven't pulled the trigger yet. I keep dithering.

But they're certainly the best copies I've seen since the Chloe's first came out. Tbh, for the price I don't even care if they only last 2 years. So I can see myself cracking soon, even sight unseen!

I'm agreeing with pacificdogwod that black ballerinas work well with opaques and skirt/dresses.

The super dry boots only come in suede, I almost bought them last week but the suede put me off. I have a similar pair from Clarks that I got 2 winters ago in leather and I have worn them non stop, desperate to find a replacement ( next time I find perfect boots I'm buying 2 pairs!)

I spent a long time working out what style ankle boots I could wear with skirts and dresses last year. I didn't want anything high and can't wear suede to work, the two pairs I have are these and these which I ordered from this company after trying other sizes on, amazing service but you wouldn't want to return
The key thing for me was a low cut boot as this reduced the cutting off the leg effect (does that make sense?). I tried to find low heeled, non suede boots with a dip at the front but couldn't.
