Shoulder bag for 9 year old dd

Dd has a tiny shoulder bag which she stuffs with various lip balms and a purse. It's too small for a book which means whenever we go out I end up taking her stuff.

Any suggestions for a nice bigger bag for her that's fairly cheap? She prefers a shoulder or cross body bag rather than a rucksack.

How cheap is cheap? My dd has a cath kinston one which is a good size for a book, colouring book, small pencil case and a few other bits.www.cathkidston.com/view-all/blossom-birds-mini-satchel-1017863

She also has a super dry mini messenger bag which is a good size too.

I'm looking for the same thing for my 8.5yo. She's at the age where she likes to carry bits and pieces with her but not a giant rucksack full. But anything I've come up with is tiny. There must be decent sized cross body bags out there somewhere!

I was thinking about up to about £20 but might pay a bit more.

My older two dds have Kipling shoulder bags, they were presents, are they quite expensive?

DD has a mini Roxy rucksack, though I see you don't want a rucksack.

Dancergirl · 01/09/2016 16:13

The Cath Kidston one is a good size and shape but dd hates anything flowery!

More expensive, but I have an eastpak messenger bag that fits a normal sized book and a 7 inch tablet. They come in loads of different colours and patterns

River Island sell nice bags for girls that look like smaller versions of women's styles [http://www.riverisland.com/girls/bags-purses/_/N-7r3?icid=mu/girls/bags---purses]]

I found a plain cross body bag in eBay (sold as a travel / mobile phone one, I think) for about £6 then personalised it with a Hogwarts badge (also ebay) to make it a bit more child friendly. So I would suggest having a look at eBay.

disneyprincesswannabe · 03/09/2016 08:40

I bought my dd one from tescos last summer. Was in the kids section but it's a good size and can fit purse, water bottle or umbrella, and kindle etc in it. It's still going well over a year later so maybe have a look around the supermarkets too?

My two have Animal bags that are a good size and about £20

Dancergirl · 04/09/2016 12:13

Thanks, River Island may be a possibility although it's hard to tell from the pictures how big the cross body ones are.

Ebay won't work unfortunately, dd is VERY fussy so I think we need to see it before buying or it will be a hassle to return.

goble do you have a link to the Animal bags? Thanks for all the suggestions.

Reporting back as we are still hunting!

Definitely not flowers or spots or any other prints really. She doesn't like Kipling in any of the colours.

I think what she wants is a leather or leather look type bag. Something from River Island or Next may fit the bill, will have another look there.

Thanks for all the suggestions Smile
