I desperately need ideas for new hairstyle. I'm mid 40s with straight thick, coloured hair. I have always had it long or shoulder length but would love a change. I have appointment with my hairdresser tomorrow and would love to shock her and say I want new look ! Have you any ideas that might suit me. Thank-you

How about a longish slightly layered bob, midway between chin and shoulders? I also don't think your side parting is doing you any favours, you have lovely thick hair but your parting makes it look very heavy on top as it is so far to the right.

Nearlyadoctor · 31/08/2016 19:47

Something like this, but maybe not as long at the front.

Actually like that style, nearlyadoctor.....not too radical. Just looked back on my own picture...not too flattering with no make up😮. Not that scary in real life!!!

Too radical can be scary - I think it would frame your face nicely as your face is quite oval - doesn't work as well on round faces I don't think!

allegretto · 31/08/2016 21:28

I think you would look good with a full fringe - something I would like but I don't have enough hair - sob!

Oblomov16 · 31/08/2016 21:35

I like both fringe and Anniston suggestions.

Truckingalong · 31/08/2016 21:38

Just don't, for the love of God, go short short. Your hair is lovely and thick though, so could carry off a good fringe.

val4 · 31/08/2016 22:08

I had a fringe when I was teenager, an 80's Bob! It swamped me and when I look at old photos all I can see is hair😀 . It took me ages to grow it out and I swore never again!!! I'm also fighting a battle with white roots....started going grey when I was in college! Maybe a fringe would hide regrowth...

This maybe a possibility??

Please post a photo after your appt today. Good luck !

I think you'd look lovely a shade lighter.

MiniCooperLover · 01/09/2016 07:06

I think your colour is too dark. At least I shade lighter would be lovely.

Runningupthathill82 · 01/09/2016 07:49

Agreed that your current colour is too dark and heavy. A slightly layered bob would be great. Definitely nothing too short.

Truckingalong · 01/09/2016 12:47

I didn't mean a heavy full blunt fringe. More of a side sweep, like your photo.

MrsSeanBeanIsAtWork · 01/09/2016 13:05

Jane Birkin style fringe and graduated sides, with a centre parting??

MrsSeanBeanIsAtWork · 01/09/2016 13:06

Looks like you have quite a 'tall' face (and great bone structure :) )so think fringe would be a good look. They are easy peasy to grow out too, esp if you use a centre part and adopt a tousled look.

val4 · 01/09/2016 14:59

OK........here it is. Not as dark in real life. Also got wet picking up kids !! From pic doesn't look too different but she cut a lot off and added layers.

It's also shorter at back and cut into head, if that makes sense. It's definitely much shinier and healthy looking but feels weird not having hair around my shoulders!

MrsSeanBeanIsAtWork · 01/09/2016 15:34

Looks lovely :)

wowfudge · 01/09/2016 16:07

Looks good. I'd go chin length next time OP. You'll really suit it.

mumofthemonsters808 · 01/09/2016 16:11

It's lovely, really suits you.

WipsGlitter · 01/09/2016 16:19

Looks good. Have you tried a babyliss big hair? Great on hair your length.

val4 · 01/09/2016 20:33

Thank-you all. Yes have a babyliss hot brush .....find it great!
