Upgrading your Wardrobe Furniture - Worth It?

Has reminded me, and inspired me to ask you lovely ladies.

Have you upgraded your wardrobe furniture and found it "worth" it?

I've long hankered after a "system" such as those Ikea sell, with hanging space, drawers, other fittings in the perhaps vain hope that it would make it easier to organise clothes and keep them less creased.

(The "wardrobes" we have are rather odd big cupboard things, I have a full-length hanging rail in one and the other is 2 widely-spaced deep shelves which it's easy to lose things in, or just throw things into.

Plus I have a big chest or drawers for knickers, bras, socks, my costume jewellery and a few oddments like pyjama trousers.)

Can you alter what you've got? Not sure if you mean the same sort of thing but we've got two big built in wardrobe things with a rail in and a shelf on top (one each) but it was built in when the house was built. I've put large plastic drawers in the bottom for folded tees/knitwear/underwear as well as shoe racks to organise the space better. IKEA do sell bits you can put into your own wardrobes - those hanging shelves etc. Since sorting mine and spending a few quid on well thought out storage it's been tons better. I've also thought carefully about where to put things. Previously shoes were always in the bottom. However, given that I had quite a few pairs of heels etc which are not worn regularly but kept for odd events/occasions, these have been put on a high shelf as I don't need to access them easily. I've moved the jumpers which were up high (and always in a mess) to lower down where I can get them easily without messing them up.

The "Cupboards" were actually made by my other half when he moved in here, and are oddly designed, not very alterable and not suitable for adding to due to a sort of lip around the front - he used prefabricated doors that were smaller than the front of the unit, then added a trim to fill the gap.

So, I can't add anything that slides out, for example.

I've been in tears of frustration in the past trying to add something into it that makes it WORK!

So, hoping to get rid of at least one of the damn things and get something properly designed for the job.
