My face turned orange. what can I do?

I went to boots this morning for a colour match thing. I came out as cool ivory. At first it looked ghostly pale but much better with a bit of bronzer and blusher so I left it on and carried on shopping.
three hours later I returned to the car and thought I'd check the staying power of the cool ivory foundation.

I'd been walking around with an orange fucking face Wtf happened there then?

Am I destined never to find an appropriate light coverage foundation that looks, and stays looking, natural?

Was it the foundation oxidising or over-enthusiastic bronzer application? The lighting in Boots is always dreadful, so difficult to get a proper match in there. If the fdtn oxidised then you can try different moisturisers but it's usually to do with your skin's ph level, so it'll be a bit of trial and error to find out that works for you.

For a light natural coverage generally I'd look at tinted moisturisers/BB/CC creams but you may still get oxidisation...

Look out for any local theatre companies currenty showing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

Bit of a crap day makeup shopping really. In another store I was deemed as 'honey' (foundation colour not a sickly pet name) but cool toned pink not yellow. In another I was given 'warm rose 50'.

No further forward at all so I'll continue with the natural scary and ugly look.

Laura mercier or Mac are fab for very pale skin.

One of my issues is that I will only use products not tested on animals so sadly, many of the big names are out.

I know too faced and illamasqua are cruelty free but nowhere within a feasible radius stocks them and I'm wary of buying foundation online. Mind you, going in person today was a waste of time.

I'm not very pale but I am neutral toned. With a habit of turning everything orange too, it seems.

What about urban decay? I know they have good Eco credentials but not sure about animal stuff.

I'm just going to confess this has made me laugh way too much.

This reminds me of the time I decided to try these tan wipe things. Ended up with a streaky face! It wouldn't wash off either so I had to walk around London for about 4 days with a patchy orange face! It was horrendous. I don't touch any bronzers or tanning creams now. I much prefer BB cream it's not as harsh and gives a lighter coverage.

Laura Mercier is cruelty free and they have a good range of colours.

Ooh interesting 'snow. I thought laura mercia sold in China (so would use the not tested on animals unless required to by law thing which obviously means that they do test on animals if their products are sold in China).

I found that website earlier. Have you used it? How much would 1 or 2 ml of foundation cover? Enough to see if it suits?

OP, I came out as that colour and it went brown on me. I went and got Revlon's Colorstay foundation in Ivory. Which I think is a touch paler than I really am, but I like it and it lasts on me, (and they do two versions, one for dry/normal skin, and one for combination/oily skin {me.})

It should get you a couple of uses depending on which foundation it is, possibly more

I've been mixing my own magic potions today.

A bit of superdrug B range 'honey' and a splodge of collection 'cool ivory' - perfect.

However, the cool ivory is actually yellow based and the honey is a bit indescribable. The other collection one I have is pinky toned and that's called honey too. So very confusing. I wish there was a law where all cosmetics companies had to use the same shade scale, names and numbers.

Is Rimmel cruelty free? I find their Wake Me up ivory is the best foundation I've ever had. I'm on my 3rd bottle. I've tried a range of different foundations - Mac studio fix, ester Lauder double wear, Clinique, Lancôme, Laura mercier tinted moisturiser, down to revlon colour stay and bourjois healthy mix and I can tell you that this is the dogs bollox on my pale with pinkish undertones skin.

Thank you all for the ideas. Urban decay is owned by l'oreal and rimmel is owned by coty. Both of these test on animals so the search continues.

Try Body shop, they have drops you can add to darken or lighten foundation any foundation, and I found it very good. Too many foundations are far too dark on pelly wally me! ( that means pale in Scotland) ! 😉
