Best foundation for "older" skin

Can anyone recommend a good foundation for older skin please? I've recently hit the magical half-century mark and my facial skin is beginning to reflect this.

I currently use MAC Pro-longwear, but am finding that my pores are beginning to show through more and more.

Any ideas please?

Before dealing with the foundation, I can recommend the Clarins sonic facial brush on large pores?

Been using one for a month now and I've seen some great improvement on the large pores on my cheekbones. I haven't lost all of them, but it's definitely better.

I also used a large foundation brush to apply BB cream (I don't use classic foundation) and really work it into my skin, and this has improved the look of my skin too.

Hopefully a foundation expert will come along too!

The Rimmel 25 hr one with the red top is lovely on mature skin.

Thanks Ineedmorelemonpledge. I've not used a facial brush before, but do exfoliate every other day. Worth a try though.

Can I use a foundation over a BB cream?

I've just recently bought the Rimmel Gel nail polish and have been VERY impressed with that, so if their foundation is anything like as good then I might try this too! Thanks ElspethFlashman

Avoid a powder mineral foundation nice used Bare Minerals for years but it was really starting to settle in lines and look terrible. I use Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet now applied with a real techniques face brush. It gives a lovely glowing yet natural matte finish and wears pretty well with a primer underneath. Easy to build for more coverage too. Just shake the bottle really well before applying.

Cakescakescakes I may have to try to get one of the Sales Assistants to try some on me before I buy, as Chanel stuff is quite expensive and this could be a very expensive exercise otherwise! :)

I recently bought Illamasqua Skin Base - I'd seen it recommended for all ages (I'm 50 too).

£32 cough cough. But the sales assistant put it on with a buffing brush which did seem to be the magic way of applying it - I guess it works it into the cracks before you start, so it can't get worse!

Currently waiting for a Buffing Brush to arrive from China (Real Techniques dupe from eBay, recommended by a budget beauty blogger).

I honestly don't know about the bb cream under foundation because I use a tinted one.

After trying a range of tinted ones from Estée Lauder to Garnier these days I've settled on a Nivea one!!!!

The young me would have laughed!

But using a brush - it's the only way forward!!! It really makes a huge difference.

My advice is find 2 that work. I advocate the Rimmel red top but find that after a month it settles into pores...I swap to a Chanel 'foundation to powder' compact which is beautiful for a month until the same thing happens. Swap back to Rimmel and all is good for another month...etc etc

I liked the YSL Touche Eclat, but haven't tried the updated version.
Bobbi Brown Balm one is lovely.

What I do, is use a serum, then a light facial oil and then the foundation applied on top of the oil with my fingers. I find it's the best way to have coverage that looks like your skin only better.

Yes go to a counter and get colour matched. Although the girls on counter tend to plaster the stuff on - it looks much better when you can put on the amount of coverage you like.

Lancôme Teint Miracle. It has a lovely sheen. It is quite light though so may not be for you if you want heavier coverage.

Have a look at a blog called "hot and flashy" she tests a foundation very Friday and I follow a lot of her recommendations. Don't be put off by the name, she's really good .... Honest 😀

Lots of great advice and tips there. It looks as though a few appointments at various counters are called for, as well as a set of brushes. Still much better than just buying one and hoping for the best, so thanks everbody. :)
