Short 'do!! What cheap/free ways of creating long lasting volume?

Very bravely lobbed my waist-length hair off into a long pixie type style. How do I create volume n body in my hair? Preferably for free/cheap? I used to plait it and leave it overnight but now it's too short for even a ponytail!

Advice from any short haired girls desperately needed!!

Not free but Aussie mousse is amazing, I can't actually believe I lived without it this long, volume that lasts all day without being sticky. I have fine shoulder length hair but I have forced my pixie cut mum to use it too. For free? Blow dry upside down, use a round brush, and add velcro rollers at the crown once it's dry. (I wear mine on my 45 minute drive to work, heavens knows what I look like to other motorists, Nora Batty probably!)

I use vo5 thicken up gel foam which makes my fine limp hair look thick and gives it loads of volume that lasts all day.
