Denim jackets......

So, on a whim I bought a denim jacket yesterday. In my mind I thought I could wear it over some of my dresses with tights and boots as the weather gets colder.

It fits me beautifully and is a lovely shape..........but I think I might just be too old for it (I'm 38) and when I put it on it looks dated. I was hoping for hip mum rather than 90s throwback.

So, what do you think? Are denim jackets only for the young? Should I return it and accept that it's just not me?

Hope not because I bought one recently too!

Queenbean · 21/08/2016 11:45

Nope, I love my denim jacket, it goes perfectly as you've described

As long as it's not one of those dad-style 80s ones and is more fitted then you're all good :)

user1471734618 · 21/08/2016 11:47

I am sure it is fine, but if you do not like it, just take it back

countrybump · 21/08/2016 12:04

It's definitely nicely fitted and not an 80s dad style one! I'm off to a friend's BBQ this afternoon and as it's a bit overcast thought it would be the perfect opportunity to give it its first outing. But, I tried it on and then had a wobble about looking like I was trying too hard to be hip!

Maybe I just need to wear it rather than overthink it!!

I wear mine a lot, and am older than you.

seven201 · 21/08/2016 12:06

Ooh I'm on a lookout for a good denim jacket. Where did you get yours?

countrybump · 21/08/2016 12:09

I got it in Fatface - there's a lot of denim in fatface at the moment!

I've got a dark blue one from Next and a light blue (bleached?) one which I picked up from New Look last week and I'm 43 !
I think denim jackets and a black biker jacket are wardrobe staples. My 12 and 8 year old's also have them. (Although we wouldn't all wear at the same time).

Floisme · 21/08/2016 16:18

I don't think denim jackets have been youthful since the 50s.

donajimena · 21/08/2016 16:20

I wear one. I'm 44

suchafuss · 21/08/2016 18:05

Always feel hip in my DJ and I'm 48! Its how you wear it that matters

mewkins · 21/08/2016 19:48

Roll up the sleeves. Job done.

DavetheCat2001 · 21/08/2016 20:04

I bought a really nice one from Oasis a few months ago.

I'm 43.

seven201 · 21/08/2016 20:55

Thanks for the shop recommendations. I like the oasis one but its out of stock. I will look online at the department stores to see if it's hiding there.

ChuckitintheBucket · 21/08/2016 20:59

I'm 54 I have one. I think I look ok in it.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 21/08/2016 21:12

Mine is a previous season's version of this, courtesy of the charity shop.

dudsville · 21/08/2016 21:23

I just pinterested white denim jackets, since that's what I have, and it's all v cool while being respectable!

CoolToned · 22/08/2016 11:53

Actually the young ones now wear the dad-style oversized denim jackets :)

rightknockered · 22/08/2016 11:57

I have an oversized Levis trucker jacket and think it looks good
I also have a one from Toast in a much sturdier denim which I get the most wear out of

AmberGreyson · 22/08/2016 13:29

nope, who said that?

ItGoesWithoutSaying · 22/08/2016 13:47

Another mid-40s denim jacket wearer. My SiL, however, commented that she liked them but felt too old. She's a couple of years younger than me Hmm.

user1471734618 · 22/08/2016 17:18

I think a denim jacket is a wardrobe staple for all ages.
I found my daughter(17) a lovely Levis jacket in a charity shop - it's a classic really. I might borrow it from her one day. I am 51.

My Topsham one from 2005 is still going strong, although I only ever wear it a handful of times each summer.
