Can we have a coat thread?

Perhaps we could share coats we've just bought, planning to buy or simply admiring? When do the main ranges start filtering through? I seem to remember the decent ones selling out in Sept so you have to be quick.

After pregnancy and breastfeeding for years I really need several new - a non frumpy rain mac, a trench? A warm winter every day coat, a couple of flattering smart wool coats (navy and light grey?) and something else lightweight and casual!

Particularly keen to discover lovely wool coats as not found any yet!

I have my eye on this

Raincoat

Ookmybanana that is a beautiful coat - I really wish I hadn't seen it!

Hopefully · 20/08/2016 11:21

I found my protected species coat incredibly useful during the spring showers and am looking forward to cracking it out again. I also have my eye on this dual purpose waterproof, but really I want something knee length. I have an old seasalt one but it really isn't my style.

taybert · 20/08/2016 11:33

Oo, hadn't spotted the shorter version of the Ted Baker......

MissMillament · 20/08/2016 11:49

I had a bit of a splurge in the Jaeger sale - bought this parka and this coat
Came to 200 altogether with the extra discount from the flash sale. The parka is lightweight (not padded) but roomy enough for an extra jumper underneath and the coat is lovely - so soft and warm. I think that is me covered for all eventualities now.

misstiggiwinkle · 20/08/2016 12:00

Thanks Jamix but I'm looking for one like the Canada Goose trillium one (that isn't £850!). Just want something plain, practical, and smart that I can chase my toddler around in at the park. It's proving to be very difficult to find!

Cellardoor23 · 20/08/2016 12:08

I agree I have a similar problem. But with pushing a pram around if I get caught in the rain it needs to have a hood. Problem is my hips have got bigger so coats fit perfectly at the top I just can't button or zip them up! I have too many problems lol

winefairyagain · 20/08/2016 12:10

Love a Jaeger coat MissM and they last forever.

I've been stalking this one but the smallest size they have is a 14 and Jaeger do tend to run large as it is.

I'd even be happy with it in this colour but again nothing smaller than a 14.

FeckTheMagicDragon · 20/08/2016 12:16

That Canada Goose one is lovely - but you only really need something that insulated in extremely cold temperature (unless you do live in Canada or something) - it's unfortunate that the fur is from trapped coyotes though.

this north face one is similar - and also very well insulated. www.amazon.co.uk/North-Face-Womens-Arctic-Parka/dp/B00LODE6ZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1471691688&sr=8-1&keywords=north+face+arctic+parka

Judydreamsofhorses · 20/08/2016 13:27

I ordered this in a 10 and a 12 as I'm not sure which I'll need.

www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/leopard-print-coat-5770256?bi=0&ps=20&Ntt=leopard%20print%20coat

Really I need a new parka, knee-ish length, with a hood.

rubybleu · 20/08/2016 16:47

Feck unless you are cold blooded - I get loads of wear out of my Trillium parka, even living in London!

Cellardoor23 · 20/08/2016 18:33

Just attempted going shopping for a coat. What a palava. It would appear I have gone up about 3 coat sizes since I last bought one (pre-baby) non fit over my bust or my massive hips. I think I might just wait till the baby weight comes off. It's only been 3 months I suppose but it's made me feel so fat trying them on Sad

Passmethecrisps · 20/08/2016 18:50

I usually just skin past style and beauty (out of my league) but I had to post to show my adoration of that ted baker coat. It is absolutely beautiful. I am going to cover that

Methenyouplus4 · 20/08/2016 20:14

Ted Baker one is lovely, I had a similar one from Zara a few years ago in a sort of dusky pink/grey and it always got compliments and looked great casual or smart.

I have a lovely camal wool one that was only £40 from Uniqlo in sale but after a year already looks pretty worn. Also scored a stunning vintage navy Burberry wool coat for £30 from a charity ebay auction and love it but only wear it for best.

Now I need a practical, waterproof knee length coat with a hood for standing in muddy field watching eldest playing rugby. Hunted all last winter but never found one that fill the bill (ideally under £100 and not super frumpy). I like seasalt but probably not warm enough.

Toffeelatteplease · 20/08/2016 21:02

On the more reasonably priced end of the scale I have found tresspass coats are awesome for keeping you dry and warm for and can be on the quite smart end of practical casual. I love the cooltec filling which I think in most cases is better/more wearable than down because you don't get to hot in it when it's a bit warmer.

If you can still get the Manhattan (XS in stock on amazon under £50), it's a smart style discreet longer length coat. (lost weight so my manhattan doesn't fit and can't seem to find the middle sizes). the san fran is meant to replace it but misses the useful cheast pocket so im undecided. Currently have the misty which is shorter but at £20 for a proper waterproof is a bargain.

I also bought a nice long length rough size 18 mac from Michael Kors at tkmaxx a couple of years back . that also cost less than £50 so well worth a rummage .

Methenyouplus4 · 20/08/2016 21:30

Toffee- quite impressed with the Trespass one, do you know if any shops stock that brand? Would quite like to try them on before I commit.

Acornantics · 20/08/2016 21:43

I invested £230 in a beautiful North Face parka last year, dark purple, gorgeous fake fur lined hood, super warm, wind and waterproof, it's perfect and I know I'll wear it for years to come.

I can't wait for it to get colder so I can crack it open again.

BristolLFR · 20/08/2016 22:24

Love the shorter Ted baker one! Am also a shorty so that style would be far more flattering than the long one.

Am due in December so currently looking for maternity coats and it's nowhere near as fun.

I did have my eye on this one as a treat for after birth (similar to the topshop one judy), but having read through this thread, I think I need something far more practical, with a hood!!

The trespass one looks far more sensible and cosy toffee

Mc314 · 20/08/2016 22:28

Im after a navy mid thigh fitted wool coat with 70s lapels

JaceLancs · 20/08/2016 22:32

I've just bought this
www.jaegeroutlet.com/Alpaca-Crombie-Coat/591082R,en_GB,pd.html?dwvar_591082R_color=74000&dwvar_591082R_size=18&start=5&cgid=women-coats-outlet&prefn1=refinementColor&prefv1=Blue
I did manage to get it cheaper from an outlet place on a flash sale
I do love a new coat but really don't need any more this year

Toffeelatteplease · 21/08/2016 06:00

trespass have their own shops store locator but a larger range is on Amazon which is free returns with Prime

Toffeelatteplease · 21/08/2016 06:05

in store at the moment are mostly the shorter length like the misty (still bum covering). the Manhattan is old stock so not in shop and I think the san fran comes in winter.

Crispsheets · 21/08/2016 06:13

I really struggle with coats. Living in London it doesn't get cold, do my Berghaus down coat doesn't get much wear. Never wore it at all last year.
I have a warm Fat face parks which is ok but doesn't make me feel great.
A couple of fashion raincoats but I have nothing light and waterproof.
As I'm moving to Yorkshire I'm going to need something!
I have a horror of anything vaguely cagoule-like. Reminds me of when the children were small.

Toffeelatteplease · 21/08/2016 06:19

BristolLFR Yes they are incredibly sensible! Maybe I'm deluded- I think if you can get one of the more discreet styled jackets, the trespass stuff holds their own with a really nice scarf! I'm pushing a wheelchair alot and don't like to be either wet or cold.

I'd like a more fun but still smart winter coat this year. so watching the thread with interest
