Massive oversized coats for AW16/17 in fashion mags

i8sum314 · 16/08/2016 15:58

Just looking at the coats in a fashion magazine and they're all huge. They look like they are both too long and too big for the models. So unflattering and you know that if the models look like they need a trolley to go with that £2,355 coat, then it aint gonna flatter the regular figure either.

I was hoping to see a fitted, navy coat single breasted with 70s lapels. I'm going to be disappointed I think.

Seen any good coats that would flatter !?

Try 'just last season' or ' labelsforless', pretty sure I some some Jaeger there.

Oldraver · 17/08/2016 00:09

Can you imagine walking in tescos for some eggs and a loaf of bread wearing that?

I reckon security would be following you

RonaldMcDonald · 17/08/2016 03:55

I love the huge coat trend and I'll accessorise with massive scarfs and sunglasses
I hate fitted little coats they look so twee and 1990s

i8sum314 · 17/08/2016 10:09

True oldraver
Id look like a clown in an oversized coat so id pick looking 90s over looking like a clown!

*huge coat, massive scarves and sunglasses' how vair Monte Carlo, just not so much a grey winter Glasgow Central commute in the teeming rain where many people would stare and snigger

RonaldMcDonald · 17/08/2016 11:54

I look like a clown too, playing dress up

BeJayKayven · 17/08/2016 13:13

PACIFIC if you are looking in - 30% off the red coat today!

i8sum314 · 17/08/2016 13:27

I'm guessing (but don't know) that there is some distinction between an autumn coat and a winter coat and anything available as new in now must be a less warm autumn coat.

Thanks, BeJay, I've been pipped at the post Sad
Serves me right for being tight clever...

i8sum314 · 17/08/2016 21:17

Oh no :-/

So, you need to register with brand alley?
I think ill do that. I like jaeger too. Bought a lovely white and grey v neckeck shift dress from jaeger at the beginning of the summer. I paid full price. You habe to comfort yourself that if you didnt buy
it when you see it, it'd be gone in your size.

PacificDogwod · 17/08/2016 21:22

I am registered with Brandalley.
And Achica Blush
I actually often don't look at them because it's just so tempting.
You know, the whole "I did not know I coveted that, right up until I saw it" Grin

i8sum314 · 17/08/2016 21:28

Yupp... earlier i was mocking the ubiquitous occurrence of stripey tops and i linked to the stripey "carrie" top in navy/pink from phase8 that my griend and i both wore on the same trip once!!

While linking to a site i was mocking , i bought a top!!! The Dee, in maroon.

Oh I'm sorry pacific I feel that I talked you out if it last night

JaceLancs · 17/08/2016 23:02

I bought the blue jaeger coat a couple of weeks ago from an outlet store when there was already an extra discount offer on
Really looking forward to wearing it this Autumn

SapphireSeptember · 18/08/2016 02:17

PacificDogwood That last Jaeger coat you posted a link to, have you seen the chocolate one? It's gorgeous! I thought the red and green ones were nice. It's £199 though! Sad

AaronBleurgh · 18/08/2016 02:25

Whatdowedo if you wore that giant pink marshmallow into Tescos, the upside would be you could hide eggs and bread inside and nobody would ever know Wink

PacificDogwod · 19/08/2016 21:24

Because of this thread I looked up 'oversized coats' - what larks! Grin

In other news, I now have a red Jaeger coat AND a red Hobbs coat winging their way to me - in my defence, I was egged on by DH (who is a far worse interweb shopper than I will ever be!). I shall try them both on and send one back

i8sum314 · 20/08/2016 00:33

oh yes, that's acceptable. You'll send ONE back. Headless photos please.

hairy Where are the prices and how do you buy anything on 'labels for less'? Confused I've signed up but I just see pics. No way of buying.

314dPiper · 23/08/2016 19:46

Pacific
Did you send one back?!

PacificDogwod · 23/08/2016 19:54

Yes. I did Halo

They are both very nice coats, I tried them both on several hundreds of times.
The Jaeger one 'feels' more expensive (as its original price reflects), was a v bright, gorgeous colour and very fluffy. I could have come a slept in my bed - I would have cuddled it all night Grin
But - it was a bit frumpy. Now, I know I am 50, but I see no need to dress all 'classic' just yet. It was a gorgeous coat and hopefully will make somebody very happy, but just not 'me'. The style would have lasted years and years, so I was very tempted.

I kept the Hobbs coat. Pillar box red, just not quite as bright as the Jaeger coat, the material is more men's suit type cloth, so not as soft and tactile, but v good quality and I loved the cut of the coat on my. Nice minimalist lines, liked the zip. The collar is oversized and is the coats whole USP and it IS quite the feature. I think Hobbs cheated on the photos on the website as it looks like the collar closes right at the top, but in RL there is no button or hook or anything there, so I think I will add one. Looks great on, though, and I am very happy Smile

314dPiper · 23/08/2016 21:10

I'm sure the HObbs one was a good choice. I prefer a more muted shade of red. It sounds really nice. I want to go and have a look, can you link to it actually?

And I agree, one can skirt dangerously close to frumpy and it's not good. Save that look for

PacificDogwod · 23/08/2016 21:13

Hobbs

Jaeger

I like a bright red, but have never had a coat that colour. It's only knee length, so hopefully won't be too overwhelming and might just cheer me up during a long and dark Scottish winter Grin

orangeistheonlyfruit · 23/08/2016 21:24

I have an oversized whistles coat from last year and love it though it is not massively oversized if you know what I mean. It's inky dark blue so it looks black in some lights and royal blue in others.

I like the fitted coats too don't get me wrong but they don't go well with my boots and midi skirts look I went for whereas the oversized caccoonish shape of the whistles is good. And it is toasty warm even with the shorter sleeves.
