I think Jamie Bells ears are bigger! And DSs hair is lighter (though he is sporting a 1980s barnet!), and his jaw a teeny bit widea, but he looks a bit like him in the pics of JB aged about 18 which I am incapable of linking to

Scuppered on sundowner front as it is raining Sad Though still hot Wink However no we get to try the huge complimentary umbrellas! Not sure how we'll fit them down the street with the mad traffic/pedestrians Grin

And yes, totally normal, BD.

AP crises v draining, Flora.

My sense of direction is so spectacularly dreadful nobody would ever trust me up a mountain.

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2016 08:29

I think DH and I may have had a walk on Cat Bells when I was pregnant with DD. I remember a scree and revisiting the kippers I had enjoyed for breakfastGrin Well done your DS. And frightened DD.

BD, I think we have done a bike ride that passes the Uni of Kent - is it in the countryside, near to Canterbury? Of course feeling weird about your DM is normal Flowers

Auriga, DD also has a sore throat! Though I think that is more due to back-to-back partying on top of jet-lag on top of poor sleep patterns. DH is taking a rather hard-line approach to her choice of which subject to drop, which I am rather uneasy with - I have just suggested he takes a more "coaching" line. It is because History had always been her best and most favourite subject until she got that bloody teacherAngry

MI, that is quite surprising re the losing a place - many uni's seem to have let students with slightly lower grades in this year. Poor girl.

Lalsy, we (with BFF's) were just talking about going away adults-only now they are old enough to be left home-alone. I have never been to the Fringe, but I do fancy it.

Totally normal, BD. It takes time to readjust to life without such a central figure.

Well done on the chapter MI.

Sympathy, Flora. I think most of us have either been there or are going through the AP crises.

Lalsy · 22/08/2016 08:42

Me too, MI. But it is what we did when dc were little so if too much for ds, I had to take him down. Loved the Google Earth comment, CV.

Lalsy · 22/08/2016 09:01

Is dd wanting to drop history or to keep it going, BTM? Can she start the year with four and then decide?

herbaceous · 22/08/2016 09:01

My two loved the Google Earth comment too. DS thinks teenagers are very annoying, and 'dye their hair all the time'.

Having a great time in lovely Bamburgh. Spent yesterday being sandblasted on the amazing beach, then going round the grace darling exhibish. DS is dying to 'see some Stars' so we bought a telescope for the purpose. Now all we need is a clear night!

This cottage is so lovely. Very tasteful, minimal, but with everything you could possibly require (except dishwasher tablets!) even has sharp knives and decent sturdy pots. Feeling the urge to do some cooking. What is this Roman chicken of which you speak Auriga?

Roman Chicken for Herbs

motherinferior · 22/08/2016 09:22

I have broken the news to my fellow-inmates that I might go away around 27 Dec. DD1 horrified: "that's still Christmas!"

motherinferior · 22/08/2016 09:34

And I think losing the uni place must have been because it was to read drama - but still a real blow. She's an enterprising young woman and has lined up lots of other interviews already, though!

hattymattie · 22/08/2016 10:13

Thank you for the tips Auriga. I'm glad dear crepies that I'm not the only one making daft moves on mountains. Going for something gentle today - a walk around Buttermere.

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2016 11:06

Lalsy, she is definitely going to drop one. She has been planning to drop History (because of teacher) for a while, but she got an A on the paper she prepared for properly (the one the dreaded teacher taught...) whereas she has been getting A's and B's in Eco in class, but just missed a B in the AS exams. DH thinks she isn't interested enough in Eco to get an A, whereas he thinks she could in History IYSWIM. She doesn't really seem that interested in any of them to me, but as she hates the History teacher....

MiniHerbs is spot on with the "teens are very annoying" comment, but no hair dye in our house!
Your holiday must be very relaxing if you are thinking about cooking - result!

Flora, sympathies on the AgedP crisis.

MI really suprised to hear friend didn't get in - theatre studies (not nec same as drama) was 15% down on applications this year ...... Dps depart made their numbers via clearing!

Blackduck · 22/08/2016 11:41

Lasley - two day conference then I'm on leave.....

Yes BTM near Canterbury - I quite like it (makes me want to be a student again)

motherinferior · 22/08/2016 11:59

Maybe London was crowded out? She's a rather unadventurous young woman in that she refuses to look outside London.

Blackduck · 22/08/2016 12:21

Maybe MI

NUFC69 · 22/08/2016 12:30

MI, well done on the writing. Re Christmas, what do you usually do between Christmas and the New Year? If it's just down time and you don't do anything much, then a trip to India sounds right for you.

Herbs, up at Kielder they actually have a star gazing observatory - and run special sessions which I guess MiniHerbs would love. Might be worth checking on line in case there is anything available for the rest of your stay.

Flora, sorry to hear about your ageing DP.

Aquafit and swimming this morning (knee is now playing up), dentist this afternoon.

motherinferior · 22/08/2016 12:57

NU, I rather hate that in-between time - and in all honesty DD1 will be out with her mates non-stop anywayWink

herbaceous · 22/08/2016 18:35

Inspired by Auriga's holiday cooking, I am making a 'convenience store stew', using posh chicken from the local. It her and the contents of the minimal, but v scenic, walled garden shop. DP trotted into the village to buy some Prosecco, which we are enjoying outside in the garden. For indeed, tis now clement.

bigTillyMint · 22/08/2016 19:01

Herbs, it sounds like you are having a lovely time there Smile

We normally go to a nice hotel with our BFF's at Twixmas, for free courtesy of Mr Tesco Vouchers Wink I can recommend it!

The mood DD1's in at the moment I don't think South India is far enough to go.Angryshe is clearly v pissed off at having to unpack the supermarket shopping (she took some cash for a pizza and in any case I don't see why DD2 should have to do it all or indeed me, what with the fact I have been working) and also cook dinner (aka or

motherinferior · 22/08/2016 19:25

(aka produce stuffed pasta and tomato sauce). I'm not her sodding housekeeper.Angry

Blackduck · 22/08/2016 19:36

Ohh MI not feeling the love.
I bounced the conference dinner - sitting with a bunch of academics who look down on administrators and talking about Business Schools.... Nah.,., large glass of white on my own is more appealing.....

I am, however, feeling a tad invisible with certain people seemingly avoiding me/not responding (not crepeys I hasten to add). Slap me round the head and tell me I am overthinking this....

MrsS is the hairy one out singing tonight?!? (Awaiting random messages :) )

motherinferior · 22/08/2016 19:45

BD you may be imagining it...or maybe not. Given the general attitude to women of a Crepey age.
