I've always bought cheap (£10) sunglasses but my eyes are getting sore and I think I need a decent pair. Any recommendations? Budget of up to £200,

I ve found Tom Ford glasses to be pretty indestructible (live in a hot place and wear them for hours daily).

I've got tortishell ray ban wayfarers.
They were cheaper in duty free.

Rayban are great quality lenses and frames much more so than my Christian Dior pair. Make sure your lenses are polarized.

I have ray ban with polarised glass.
I got new ones just before having my eyes corrected (laser) as knew I'd need to wear them more esp in the first few months. Got them at duty free for about £120-150. Used to have Prada ones which were also good but I scratched them.

Although the eye clinic did give me a pair of sunglasses - price ticket said about £50-60. Have to say they are also very good with polarised dark lenses. I know I had my new ones so when I chose a got ones I knew dd would like - she says they seem good.

Amazing for glare but not losing colours or contrast and useful all year round especially for the sheen on a wet wintery road.

When did you last have an eye test?

Maui Jims are brilliant. High-quality frames, polarised lenses and fit well on the face, so stay put during exercise, if that's a consideration. About £150-170, and a bit less in duty free shops.

Maui Jim - great lightweight glass polarised lens - glass is are less prone to scratching, if they do become scratched your eyes will still be protected and they have fabulous customer repairs at reasonable prices.
Ray Ban were good when their lenses were made by Bosch & Lomb - they had B&L etched on the lens now they are no better or worse than any of the other fashion houses - although I believe the wayfarer may still have the original glass lens.
Other brands reputed to have excellent lens quality are Persol and Serengeti.

I got my Maui Jims online - I think I paid £109. I bought a second pair the same before realising they would fix my old pair - which after putting up with 5 years of abuse they were crushed under a falling cabinet - they fixed them for £40.

I have Oakley sunglasses and love them. I'll definitely be getting polarised lenses next time though.

Other thing to bear in mind is the style - a more wrap around style will help to minimise glare. Try the sunglasses on outside in the sun if you can to get a better idea about how they feel and perform. Brown lens will give a more focused lens - good for driving especially in foggy glare.

Try your optician. Even places like Specsavers have a great rang of designer sunglasses and even if your prescription is normal they do polarised/coated lenses and can help with fit. I have a big pair of Jackie O style sunnies with polarised lenses and they're great.

Rayban wayfarers with polarised lenses. They are always complimented. Have some Oakleys too but they are my ski glasses.

Unless you have been somewhere really dodgy, all sunglasses now sold in the uk provide real protection. If your eyes are sore, that is something different so go see an optician asap.

Otherwise you want wraprounds that fit closely, not stupid end of nose fashion styles. Bloc from millets are quite a good make and last as well as any. No need to pay extra zeroes, that just funds the ads.

Oakleys are good, also Randolph Engineering - they make the sunglasses issued to US military aircrew. There are a variety of frame sizes & colours, as well as lens colours. The lenses cut glare but don't affect contrast.

I agree with special subject, hence my question about having an eye test. All adults should get their eyes tested every two years regardless of whether they wear anything to correct their sight or not. Opticians also check your eye health as well as your vision.

I have regular eye tests as I wear contacts and had one in December. But will definitely look at another one. Thanks for the suggestion im off to do some searching.

If you have sore eyes and wear contacts they definitely need checking out then.
