Lipstick colour

I usually wear a subtle pink or just clear good but tried a darker pink at the Bobbi Brown counter today. It massively highlighted how thin my lips were-especially my top lip! Is there a rule that certain colours make lips look fuller or hide thin lips! Is glossy better than Matt?

Paler and glossy makes lips look bigger, darker and matte smaller. I'd stick to something quite similar to your natural lip colour though.

There are also other tricks like highlighter on cupid's bow and liner just below bottom pipeline etc but it's all a bit "made up" for me.
