Is it better to be an Apple or a Pear?

I'm definitely an Apple shape, big boobs and a tummy but no bum or hips and slender arms and legs. Have been since I was a teenager. I find it hard to get clothes that look good on my shape and feel that most UK fashion is cut more for a Pear - smaller boobs, small waist and bigger hips and bum. I also think a Pear's 'imperfections' are easier to hide in clothes, if I try to hide my big boobs I look 2 sizes bigger than I really am. I've also had pp ( genuinely ) assume I am pregnant over the years, which is hugely embarrassing. I'm only a size 14, so not slim but not massive either!

Was wondering what other pp thought? There may be lots of things about being pear shaped I haven't considered, would love to hear all your thoughts!

Well I'm not an hourglass as I don't have much of a waist!

Someone once said my body looked like it had been cobbled together from bits of other pp's bodies as all the parts were mismatched!😁

I'm an hourglass but with a very short body and long legs
I really struggle with most fitted or waisted things which should flatter me as the waist is in the wrong place
As I'm not that tall I can also look dumpy if I cut myself in half with a belt
Trousers always gape at the waist whilst tops and jackets strain across the bust or if big enough in that area look huge everywhere else

I'm an apple. I think it would be easier to dress a pear shape.

There's no question that a pear shape is better from a health perspective.

Yeah, in pictures, when sitting down, pears can seem slimmer than they are unlike us with upper body heaviness.

I hate having my picture taken sitting down unless there's a table hiding my bottom half then yes It can make you look slimmer. If my body is on full show then my thighs looks humongous. Classic up straight posture one leg in front of the other pose works best for me Smile

I was an hourglass with a long waist (classic hourglass is short but narrow waist). I still have a narrow waist BUT I now have a big tummy too.

So god knows what I am now. An apple with a big arse? A column?

Very thin apples look amazing as they often have amazing legs ! I have a few friends that are very overweight apples and it's not great for them . I'm an hourglass but I find that has its problems too . My dh loves it though which is handy !

Im an apple and I hate it! Am fairly slim, but with big boobs and absolutely no waist, I would LOVE to have a waist - to actuallly go in at the waist and look like a woman rather than a boy with boobs would be fab!

I'm an hourglass according to my measurements, but I can't seem to look like one when dressed, due to the waist placement in most clothing.
The only way is to wear stretchy jersey, but not too tight or there is the problem of emphasising the mum tum.
Shirt dresses are not too bad, as long as they're not too tight around the bust.
It's easier if I wear separates, but I love the simplicity of dresses.
I also think a pear shape is easier to shop for

To be honest I have no idea what I am anymore. I used to be pear but now I'm not sure. 3 months after having a baby I have big boobs and big hips but no waist. What would that be? Lol

I'm a pear. I don't mind it but it does mean I can't wear dresses. Either it fits around the hips but is baggy on the boobs or it fits up top but too tight on the bum.
I don't think there is any perfect shape to dress for, it's all about finding what works for your shape.
For me it's separates, dark slimming bottoms with bright, long-line, low cut tops

I'm very pear shaped and have always envied apples with their lovely legs.

Trousers are never cut curvy enough for me. A line skirts and skater dresses for me

I just wonder if some of you are variations of an apple rather than true apple? When I look at what looks really good on me it tweaked my "shape" to a similar one that's all.

I'm a pear and would love slimmer legs, but I think that pears generally carry weight better. Excess weight around the tum makes people look 'fatter' than a bigger arse and hips do.

Is it weird that I don't know what body type I am? Confused (at ripe old age of 42!)

I thought I was an apple for years, as I carry weight on my stomach. However, I have very defined hips and a rounded (not flat) bum.

Then I thought I was a pear, but I have slim thighs which never get heavy (and non-flat stomach -see above), and smallish bottom.

So what am I? I'm tall, with broad shoulders and hips, average boobs, smallish bottom, slim thighs, long legs. (Never a flat stomach unless basically underweight Sad). Is that hourglass?

Oh, and v defined waist. (okay, I'm a mutant)

I am a pear and also quite petite so finding clothes that fit can be tricky. I am only a size 10, sometimes even 8, and yet I have truly humongous thighs. I hate them. Having said that, I wouldn't want to be an apple. In general though, it's about finding what suits you.

I'd rather be a slim apple than a slim pear.

It's 100 times easier to buy things and look good as an apple!

I'm an apple. I have to seriously watch my weight otherwise I look like an egg.

I'm a pear and always jealous of you apples with long slim legs. Mine are v short and I always have to take trousers up.

Found it much easier to dress when I was younger as baggy trousers/combats were fashionable and I could wear them with cropped t-shirts etc to show off my tiny midriff (it's considerably more substantial these days!)

LOL at the above comment. I know exactly where you're coming from! I resemble closer to a potato personally.

Deffinitely better to be an hourglass in my opinion as both apples and pears have thier challenges.

Hourglasses can have short heavy legs though but they can wear heels to lengthen them.

Pears look so feminine. Curves, slimness, small shoulders, thin small arms, tiny waist and modest bust but then sometimes a very much larger bottom half but it's far easier to hide that with skirts & trousers. Men love that shape too.

I'm an apple and unless I'm thin, I either look beefy or just fat. Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider is my inspiration so I aim for that. It's SO hard dressing an overweight apple as the waist is the key for both mens and womens dressing and if you don't have a waist, you enter tent teritory. I agree with the posters saying that sitting down, apples can look huge and the lovely legs are often wasted as who shows them off in this country with casual dressing and bad weather? Everything has to be tailored too which is expensive and trousers and skirts can have 'extra' material at the hips, bum and thighs which I can't fill.

I agree with the egg comment too. slimness is crutial if you're an apple. I also love the lovely long torso that pears have.

For those that think dressing a apple is easier, what would you wear everyday?
I am a true apple and just look a messBlush
