Help me be assertive with my hair cut please

I have curly/wavy hair. I use no silicones/sulphates, and haven't for years. The only good haircuts I have ever had have been dry, cut curly. But there have only been two of these. Every single time I am bullied into having a wet cut and it blow dried straight. Hairdressers seem to be very keen to do this - maybe it is easier or looks better? Either way, it doesn't help me, as the cut isn't great when it's curly, and I wear it curly every day.

I have been looking for a curly hairdresser for a long time. I can't get to Birmingham, and the best I have come up with is an appointment at Tony and Guy's with their 'curly specialist'.

I REALLY don't want to waste my money and time.

How can I ensure it is cut how I want? I am not very good at being assertive, but I really do not want a wet cut or a straight dry.

Does anyone else suffer from this problem?

I feel your pain. Can you go in for a consultation before the appointment to talk it through? I guess lots of hairdressers have been trained in a specific way.

Although when I went to the curl- specific guy in Bham I'm sure he cut it wet. Not helpful, sorry!

Thanks. Cut is today. I'm just going to have to cross my fingers and hope. It's not been done for a year because I hate it so much when it goes wrong. Again...

Speak on phone first. Easier to make point not on their turf somehow. Good luck - it's frustrating. And that bit when they've cut it too short wet and then it pings up and the curly hair 'specialist' is all surprised that it shortens as it dries aaaargh!
