Most expensive item of clothing you own?

Aside from leather jackets, coats, etc?

I am currently lusting after a skirt but I have never bought a skirt around this price. My clothes are mostly in the $50 range.

Apart from boots (of which I own many) probably a few dresses bought for weddings/special occasions for around 120 each. One I have worn a few times a year for the last ten years so have got my money's worth! I get most use out of black dresses, jumpers, trousers etc so never mind spending on them.

fizzyyes · 07/08/2016 21:37

A Jaeger Cashmere coat for about £400. I wore it to death but the moths got it last year.

Bingybongybashy · 07/08/2016 22:26

£95 for a pair of FLY London leather boots. They last for years and years so happy to pay that much. Plus I love them as they are so comfortable!

MagentaRose72 · 07/08/2016 22:52

My Merrel coat at £150 was worth every penny as I go out in all weathers to walk the dog. I'm not a big spender on clothes as I love to make my own one off's, but make up for it on shoes! Grin

CointreauVersial · 08/08/2016 16:31

I'm struggling to think of any single item in my wardrobe which cost more than £80, and that includes accessories. I think the only time I've spent a three-figure sum on an item of clothing is when I bought my wedding dress, but that was only £150 (from Jigsaw), and I've worn it many times since.

I'm a charity-shopping, sale-haunting cheapskate generally!

leadrightfoot · 08/08/2016 21:30

I just remembered my Jaeger cashmere coat now thirty Erm three years old ( how / when did that happen?) and was about £500 then
Dubarrys absolutely the best boots ever at £300+ and my Mountain Horse boots that died 2 years ago at £110
A silk full length full circle bright red skirt Laura Ashley circa 1990 Erm £100+ but still as awesome as the day I bought it.

Dear god buy cheap buy twice I have clearly understood all above get used

I am lusting after a Stella McCartney Nadia coat, which is stunning, £2000, luckily 😟 My size sold out! Can't find it anywhere, just as bloody well! Even my wedding dress didn't cost as much. I am more of a jewellery & art buyer.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 09/08/2016 15:30

Versace work dress - cost about £80 in the sale and is amazing. Doesn't need ironing, is just a throw on and go, and has pockets! I love it.

And my Carolina Herrera prescription sunglasses. They're far too big for my head but I love them. I think they were £100 or so after the Boots discount.

Other than that I don't tend to buy expensive items really.

ZansForCans · 09/08/2016 15:33

For some reason my keyboard won't do a pound sign but...

175 funky flatform sandals that I just had to have, but haven't worn - but I know they are there for weddings etc. I bought them because I can't do heels and I can never find any shoes I like for posh occasions and have a panic.

179 Hobbs coat (reduced from 225) - it's my formal coat for special occasions and work dos, had it for years, and it's fabulous.

150 Orla kiely dress (on ebay but new - reduced from 300)

Tigerbear · 18/08/2016 23:43

A fur coat, yet to be worn.
Got it for £1,200, reduced from about £9,500!

Cellardoor23 · 19/08/2016 00:03

Probably my Hermes scarf. Other than that most of my clothes are just random high street brands. A couple cashmere tops and my ted baker bag. I'm lusting after a mulberry bag though.

Cellardoor23 · 19/08/2016 00:09

cool I love spending money on jewellery too. Although I had a really expensive ring that looked the spitting image of Kate middletons but smaller. I stupidly lost it though. I'm still convinced it's somewhere in the house. Hopefully!

Pisssssedofff · 19/08/2016 09:07

Colette dingham silk blue day dress, £120 but I love it to bit

JockMonsieur · 19/08/2016 09:10

in my current wardrobe, a £70 pair of trousers
previous have spent £200 on the odd occasion dress

Last winter I was lusting after a coat in Ted Baker that was £300. I couldn't bring myself to spend that much, but they're doing the same one again this year, and this thread may enable me...

shins · 19/08/2016 12:08

A Margaret Howell dress in the sale for €280 It's navy and plain and beautifully cut.

SapphireSeptember · 19/08/2016 12:40

About £42 because I am cheap. It was on a 1950s style dress by Chic Star.

I've bought some dresses from Bon Marche that would have been around the £50/55 mark, but got them in the sales, so they were half price or just over. Some of their stuff I would never wear, these were gorgeous though.

All my posh stuff I get from eBay or charity shops. Monsoon silk dresses and the like.

90daychallenger · 19/08/2016 12:42

£80 pair of winter boots. I nearly had a stroke spending that much money on one item of clothing. Planning for them to last me at least 20 years

MrsGsnow18 · 19/08/2016 12:43

Not sure what most expensive non-occasion wear item would be.
I have bought a few dresses for weddings/formal occasions that have been a total rip off expensive £100+ and only worn once or twice.

I have a desigual coat which I got in a sale for £150 which I love and have worn on quite a few special occasions, it's very distinctive though and could not be worn all the time.

Work wise most expensive is prob £60 for a dress but lots of wear out of it.

Advicepls7080 · 19/08/2016 12:45

I think my Balmain dress, it cost £845.00 im judging myself right now though

FunkyMunkies · 19/08/2016 13:15

Currently, a Jigsaw wool coat that was £250. Not worn a lot - keeping it for 'best' but intend to wear more this year.

I've a couple of pieces of jewellery that were around £1K each . The most I'd spend on a dress would be around £100 and I'd have to wear it a lot. I bought a dress for £120 for a wedding evening do and have only worn it once.

itssquidstella · 19/08/2016 13:40

I have a lot of outdoor kit that costs upwards of £100 a piece. Apart from that, a Ghost dress which was about £300 and a Reiss blazer that was £180. I also have a fair few Ted Baker dresses which cost around the £150 mark.

Next purchase will be a Mulberry bag, I think - I want something I'll love which will last.

WhooooAmI24601 · 19/08/2016 15:56

I have a couple of Ted Baker coats which were expensive (to me) but have lasted a while. Mulberry handbags, and an LV bag which is the most impractical thing I own.

Bought myself some Mulberry winter boots, they were £340 last year and look awful now. I bought similar ones from Hogan for £80 and they still look pristine. Proof that more expensive doesn't mean better quality.

DH buys me LV scarves when he goes away with work, I have a beautiful silver one which cost a fortune that DS2 was sick on. I've cleaned it but can't bear to wear it any more because, well, it always reminds me of small-boy-vomit.
