Dyeing hair blonde, is doing it yourself worth the risk?

I've got hair that is fairly grey now, I have it dyed at the hairdressers but I'm currently trying to save money and it now badly needs doing as there is over an inch of grey roots showing! Was wondering whether I should try doing it myself but I don't want to wreck it, as it's shoulder length, quite fine, wavy and prone to breakage.

Does anyone have any experience of successfully doing it themselves and if so which products are any good?

Or should I just bite the bullet, scrape together the cash and get it done professionally which will be about £50? I usually go to a salon which specialises in using more natural products as they are less damaging and they are pretty good.

What should I do..?

I have light to mid brown hair and when I tried to DIY blonde (many years ago) it went orange. After several DIY attempts to improve it I went to a hairdresser and they had a couple of gos, but by then my hair was so buggered and porous any colour put on it just washed straight out.

Honestly I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself unless you're basically blonde already.

Way too risky, plus I think grey hair can be even harder to get the colour right, try and get the cash together to get it done professionally.

Really not worth it. Home dyed blonde hair always looks blocky and yellow.

I saw a photo of Ferane Cotton recently and wondered why her hair looked so awful. Then I realised she's currently the face of a home hair dye kit so she's probably contractually obliged to use their dye. And hers was probably applied by a top stylist!

Don't do it!

Good advice, thanks! That's what I thought. My sister does dye her grey hair blonde and it looks lovely. But her hair texture is v different to mine, thicker and straighter, mine is quite frizzy and I don't want it to end up straw like!

This is my hair when freshly dyed. ( doesn't look like that at the mo tho )🙁

Definitely save the pennies and get it done professionally. My hair's dark blonde and I had a total nightmare trying to correct after a botched home dye attempt! It cost me twice as much in the end.

You have lovely hair OP - don't risk ruining it!

Lovely hair, OP.

I've tried it - and failed.

Your hair is amazing!
