Packable halfway-stylish hats?

I want a good quality summer hat for both beach and general wear. I've spent my life in cheap high street/market stall summer hats which have been varying shades of ok, but not great as I have a small head and face.

I've got my eye on a Melissa Odabash hat (good sale price, surprisingly good fit) in a local shop, but am having serious reservations about its packability. It's a soft straw fedora. Would I be mad to buy it without knowing how it will hold up? It needs to go in a suitcase or bag, I can't wear it while travelling for various reasons.

Alternatively I'm looking at rollable panama hats, but I'm not really a polished, beach-glam person, more of a titting about in rock-pools and covered in toddler snot person, so might feel a bit of a fraud.

Any other hat ideas that won't break the bank and will fit in with my slightly crumpled aesthetic?

I have a Tilley which is lovely and easy to pack.

I have got a few Wallaroo hats, not too expensive and packable, some of them go in the washing machine.

Does the Wallaroo not crumple at all? I'm also hankering after on crinkle-free one as I wear a straw floppy one but it doesn't look very smart when teamed with the rest of the outfit.

Also, why do people stare at me??? I've noticed this since wearing the hat but then again, most people don't wear them as it's not 'fashionable'. More people do if they're on holiday, but never in the UK. How strange.

I also have a Tilley hat which I love - way better than any of the cheap hats I have gone through

No crumples - not sure how, must be the fabric composition, but no crumples at all. My favourite one is the Casual Traveller - has quite a big brim. They go on forever!
