Yes, I sound like my mother, but have some knee problems etc and are under strict orders that my shoes must be 'supportive'. I don't think it needs to be too extreme, but still not completely unshaped like Sketchers or Converse. And I want them to look nice. And not cost a fortune. Possible? Any ideas?

I think Asics would be worth a try for you. They have various types of supports, in the range, depending on your requirements. I love mine.

DD says Adidas Stan Smith's are really comfortable (better than Converse or Superga).

Have googled. The Asics look super comfy but probably out of my budget, at least for the time being. Adidas Stan Smith's look really great though and more within budget, so I think I'll go out and try some on. Thanks.
