Anyone else do capsule wardrobe packing?

I converted to this idea at Christmas after reading threads here in the past. I'm currently planning mine for the end of the week.

So this is a photo of it packed up- it's a Ryanair approved hand baggage sized case. And also unpacked, do you can see what goes into it. (Should say, I've removed the underway- I've not overstating to that extent!) Have I missed anything? Cosmetics etc go in handbag for security checks.

If you pack this way please add you photos so I can steal your ideas?

I've just been looking at capsule holiday wardrobe ideas on Pinterest. I am normally a huge over packer. We will be taking 1 year old ds with us this summer for the first time, so I need to learn to streamline my packing big time.
Where are you off to and where did you get your ideas from?

Going to the South of France over the summer, but I'll use similar clothes for winter in Tenerife.

There were threads on here a few years ago and I used the ideas from there. It took a lot of planning last year (no buying pretty things that wouldn't "work"), but it has made planning much easier this year!

I hadn't thought of using Pinterest....

Having just got back from a holiday where I massively overpacked took a few items I didn't end up wearing, I'd love to steal your tips and ideas - please share!

I pack light and am usual reasonably good at capsule wardrobes. This summer, I'm going for a different approach though. All I'm packing is dresses. No worries about if something goes with something else. My plan is to wear a clean dress each evening, and then use them in the day time afterwards.

I always do this as never take more than a small cabin bag even for 3 weeks away in California/Tuscany which are our main summer hols.

Off soon to Italy, and although I haven't packed yet, this year it's all navy/other blues and whites.

So I generally take about 6 or 7 tops, 3 bottoms, 1 nice dress, 3 pairs sandals. 2 bikinis, 1 swimsuit. We're always in isolated villas with no neighbours so don't care what I look like in a bikini!

Because everything goes with everything else, I can make around 20 outfits out of that.

I also manage to fit in Scrabble and a pool floatie

The important thing is also to roll everything up into teeny tiny bundles, not pack flat.

The Travel Fashion Girl blog is worth a read, she runs a Facebook group too.

I get the majority of my summer clothes out, separate into piles of "I LOVE this, must take", "I like this, might take", and "Nope, not coming with me". I then start thinking about how things co-ordinate, and make sure most things can be swapped. I then weed out things in the two possible piles until I have a similar amount to Mumblechum. I've had my colours done, so the majority of my clothes coordinate anyway.

Remus, love the idea of dresses only. Don't think I have enough suitable.

I do capsule packing. Makes life so much easier.
I generally start by choosing shoes and accessories then add in basic clothing items, then finally choose the most versatile pieces I own to pull it all together.

I'm going camping for 10 days next month on the French/Spanish border. It'll be hot, but I'll be spending 5 days in the mountains on my way back, so a much cooler climate.

I'm taking a long black skirt which can also be work as a strapless dress (I'm busty so taking a black vest top to wear under it), one pair of shorts, one knee-length skirt and one pair of linen trousers. Denim jacket. One cardigan, one cashmere hoodie and an assortment of tops (2 vests, 2 tunic blouses, 2 cotton long-sleeved shirts). A couple of scarves (one fine, one thicker). Sandals and keds. 2 bikinis. Flipflops for the beach and socks for when I'm (invariably) cold at night :) Enough underwear for 5 days, which I'll wash, and a t-shirt to sleep in. Oh and a cagoule just in case it rains...

Seconding the just dresses idea. I have lots of French Connection jersey dresses which I mainly buy off eBay. I know they suit me and flatter my shape so I will be taking about 5 for a week in Greece. Plus one grey cardie, one bikini, flip flops, leather sandals and white converse. That's it (plus underwear, a travel towel and toiletries obvs )
It makes life sooo much easier. Good luck OP! It'll be so worth it. Lugging a big heavy bag is a pain in the arse.

Fab ideas! I love the dress one, but I'm still bf'ing and don't have any that work.
I'm thinking of a few pairs of shorts, a few vest tops, a couple of swimsuits and cover up things and a cardigan should do.

I build up from the shoes. I decide what kind of shoes I need depending on what I'll be doing, then only consider stuff that works with the shoes and which is all centred around one major colour.

Marking place for ideas....off to California next week and I'm already starting to twitch about the packing. I'm definitely in the dress camp, though.

Actually, the biggest problem will be controlling the packing of two teenage DDs who refuse to contemplate travelling light.

Did anyone see the packing light section on Lorraine yesterday? I'm really interested in the idea of folding trousers around the layers of other clothes- does it work? I'd love the rousers to look less crumpled when I get there.
