Do I need straighteners or a 'hot air styler'?

I don't 'do' hair normally but have just had my hair cut and styled and need to look after it! It's long, 2 inches below my shoulders, with long layers. Thick heavy hair too. I have a blowdryer and round brush but am very inexperienced and want a smoother finish rather than the bushy one I end up with.

What do I get? Straighteners? Which ones? Or a big hair thing? Again any suggestions on brand?

I think it depends on the finish you want.

Straighteners tend to make hair very straight and a lot less pouffy.

Big Hair styler gives a sleek but more bouncy, not poker straight look.

I have both. I use straighteners rarely, only when I'm in a rush. Much prefer the finish I get with Big Hair tbh. Once you get the hang of it, it's often as good as a salon blow dry.

Oh and the Babyliss Big Hair is what I've got, obviously! About £40.
