Jeans always, always fade at the knees... Anyone else?

I was thinking of dying them or should I just bin them. When I usually buy cheapy ones around £20 I bin them after a few months as the knees always fade before everywhere else and look stupid, So I thought id splash out a bit and spent £60 on a pair of boden ones.

Worn them 3 times and now the knee on 1 side has faded considerably more than the other knee, What would you do try dying them? or bin these too and just give up with ever having jeans that last?

What the hell are you doing?! I don't think I've ever noticed this happening!

This has never happened to me, I'm also wondering what you're doing that wears them out, do you kneel down a lot? I do, however have lots of experience dying jeans. I dye mine all the time. For a lovely deep indigo jean blue, don't use the Dylon 'Jeans Blue' colour, it's crap (too pale & artificial looking). Instead I use a whole box of navy & 1/3 of a box of black at the same time. Brings mine up like brand new every time.

Do you work with kids? Or have a small one? I do & I am kneeling a lot to talk to them plus I work for Clarks & we are kneeling on the kids dept a lot.

Thank god cindy was beginning to feel like an outcast! yes i have a 4 yr old so constantly bending down to him or on the floor playing. I expect them to wear out after a while, but the boden ones have gone within 3 wears

Mine always go at the knees- it shouldn't be 3 weeks though! Am also living in supermarket jeans as am not paying a lot when I'm crawling on the floor all the time! Are your jeans v skinny? I keep my darker, very skinny jeans for going out and change into joggers in the house. I've also got lighter jeans and recently some girlfriend fit ones from sainsburys for day to day wear. My sister has had the same pair of really fitted indigo jeans for bloody ages though and they still look perfect don't know how she does it!

This always happens to me! I always buy top shop either Jamies or Leighs. Left knee always goes first, and after a year or so gets a hole while the other knee just goes white. I usually buy dyed jeans so either dark navy, faded black or sometimes a dark mottled (bleached?) wash. I think it's to do with them being very skinny. I'm a size 10 but usually buy a size 8 jeans as otherwise they are baggy and falling down after the first fortnight. I have given up trying other brands and just save my faves for nights out. I do a lot of beds g and kneeling with 2 and 5 yr olds but I also sit cross legged a lot on the sofa and always tuck my legs under me/fold them up when I'm sitting.

Also I do wear mine every single day (sahm) if I just wore evenings and weekends they would last a lot longer!

Happens to me too. Have a toddler and a crawling baby so spend a lot of time on the floor.

No solutions here, might try dying but presume it would also dye the stitching on the jeans?

This doesn't happen to me.... But I do always manage to wear a hole between the thighs instead.

If anyone could give me a bit of liposuction to avoid this happening that would be great!

I hadnt even thought about the way I sit, I too sit with my knees folded to the side on the couch so I suppose that's not helping my knee situation. I always usually go for dark indigo though so dont suppose that helps and yes they are usually skinny jeans. Am thinking of trying straight leg and only for wearing outside the house in, to see if they last a bit longer!

I would dye these ones but as a pp said I don't want to dye the stitching, maybe I should embrace the shredded jeans look and slice the knees to bit so nobody would notice.

I always thought this was normal and one of the things that is nice about jeans. I don't really like very new looking, dark jeans, I only get fond of a pair when they have started to fade and get a bit of "character". So personally I would just carry on wearing them as they are, but as you don't like them, I'm wondering if jeans with a higher content of a man-made fibre would fade less. I've always found that anything made of pure cotton tends to fade and/or leak colour more.

this is to do with having small kids

I used to wear knees out, esp. on right hand side (my kneeling-knee for wiping noses/bums/helping with shoe laces/explaining face to face why it is not nice to hit Tommy/hug when crying etc!)

I too thought this was just inevitable with jeans - mine always fade at the knees. Occasionally I have dyed them but more often than not by the time I am contemplating that they're reaching the end of their life anyway.

Not sure getting straight let will help. My indigo straight leg one from Sainsburys are almost white at the knee (toddler and pre-schooler). It's a toss up whether the knees or the thigh area goes first.

Mine always always wear out at the crotch! No idea why. I normally get about a year's wear out if them first.

Yup, my right knee always goes first! This happened before I had kids too, don't know if it I something to do with how I cross my legs? I wouldn't mind if both knees wore evenly but one white knee looks absurd!

Yes thats it, My left knee is my kneeling knee to wipe/tell off/pick up things and tie laces too.

So basically wait a few more years and my jeans will always look good as new
