Skinny jeans with a big arse?

LaConnerie · 10/07/2016 20:39

I am average weight for my height (11 stone, 5ft 10, size 12) so can get away with most styles. However I have always kept away from skinny jeans or trousers as I have a big arse - not Kardashian proportions but definitely out of proportion with the rest of me.

Anyway I went shopping with a friend and her teen dd yesterday and the dd said skinnies would be perfect on me as 'bums are in' Hmm

So it got me thinking - after I'd mentally given her a good slap - should I get it out a bit more? I wear tight-ish jeans if i'm wearing long loose tops, but I would never think my big sticky outy bum was something I should show off. Is that just be being old and out of touch?

I do get bored with the same 'look' all the time, would a big bum in tight jeans look awful when the rest of me is quite a bit slimmer?

I have tried some on btw, but all I could see was my arse shouting at me in the mirror.

You sound the same shape as me. I love my big bum and am so happy it's finally fashionable. I do so many squats to try to prevent it shrinking.

We won't have long to be on trend so I'd embrace it if I were you!

LaConnerie · 10/07/2016 20:59

Ha ha my arms aren't long enough for that Grin

Haha if you fold yourself down on the floor you should be able to manage it!

elQuintoConyo · 10/07/2016 21:24

If you aren't comfortable in something, then it will show if you see what I mean? I had a pair of skinnies that looked lovely but I was paranoid it gave me camel toe, i kept pulling down tops and holding my bag in front of me etc. I hated being concious about somethibg that no one was probably giving the time of say to. But I felt uncomfortable and it made me look ill at ease.

I hate seeing women fiddling with their clothes because they don't feel confident/comfortable in them.

That's my tuppence worth Grin

Depending on your budget, could you get some cheapies from Primark and see how you get on? Then if you feel like new woman, invest in some good quality ones.

TrappedNerve · 10/07/2016 21:26

I got lovely ones from primark, really dark denim, slightly stretchy with a rip under both knees ( am 38 with a big bum ) and they're so flattering and the best jeans I've ever had and only cost £10 :)

CakeNinja · 10/07/2016 21:35

I quite like my big bum aswell! Like a pp, I do a lot of squats and bum work in the gym to keep it perky - it's my only good bit of my body I think Grin
But yes, if you're not comfortable wearing the jeans, it will show all over your face, so don't wear them because 'bums are in', wear them because you like them.

LaConnerie · 10/07/2016 21:43

I may buy some Primark cheapies and see if I get laughed at then Grin

I did not know big bums were in. How is this decided? Anyway, if this is true then I'm in luck. And I embraced so called "skinnies" (I say so called because I'm a 14! ) and I love it. You need to think about things like pockets and stretch. Pocket positioning can make or break it, and personally I avoid the jeggings look.

dudsville · 10/07/2016 21:49

Ps, re camel toe. Isn't this created just by pulling trousers up too high?

dudsville · 10/07/2016 21:50

Posted too soon. I mean that is how you wear your clothes rather than the cut of the clothes that creates that effect.

LaConnerie · 10/07/2016 21:50

Ooh please tell me where my pockets should be!

Bums are 'in' according to my friends teen dd - I am happy to take her word for it Grin

Bums are very much in, my stunningly gorgeous 18 year old DNiece and her friends love selfie-ing themselves from behind, shoving their arses out as far as they'll go Grin

TwentyOneGuns · 10/07/2016 21:56

It was me, I started the trend. I've had a big bum for years. Kim Kardashian is just trying to steal my look Grin.

TrappedNerve · 10/07/2016 21:57

Glad big bums are in cos mine is here to stay Grin

BikeRunSki · 10/07/2016 21:59

I'm a size 14 with hefty legs and wear straight leg rather thAn skinny jeans. I feel it gives me better balance.

MamaLazarou · 10/07/2016 22:57

Big bums are lovely, skinny jeans are not, imo.

dudsville · 17/07/2016 09:12

LaConnerie, I just found this thread again so my apologies for the late reply. I'm sorry to say I don't know where your pockets should be but maybe try google. This will be about what kind of bottom shape you have and I think where your waist falls. The wrong pockets will make you look odd and the right pockets will really flatter your shape. I nearly kept a skirt recently because the pockets were perfect for my butt, but the rest of the skirt looked dreadful on me so went back!

SuperFlyHigh · 17/07/2016 10:43

I've been wearing skinny jeans forever (and I have a big bum), key is stretch and preferably but not always a dark wash.

Have some great light grey stretch skinny jeans I got in oasis sale which are super comfy and a change from my H&M or Top Shop ones.

herecomesthsun · 17/07/2016 10:48

God I wish big bums had been in when I was a teen!

mzS1990 · 17/07/2016 11:03

Depends how you carry yourself, what else you wear etc.

Big bums are in fashion , but look at the girls with the big bums. They are gorgeous! They don't just have fat arses. They have the whole package.

blue2014 · 17/07/2016 11:18

I'm just a generally fatty and DH swears my bum looks better in skinnies than other jeans so go for it

Simmi1 · 17/07/2016 11:29

I also have a big bum - I'm size 10 on top and 12 on bottom. I'm only 5"3 but I love skinny jeans with a long jumper and long boots

Simmi1 · 17/07/2016 11:31

Wish big bums were in when I was a teen! However my bum is just wide rather than rounded like J Lo's Sad

TychosNose · 17/07/2016 11:36

Im small with a big bum and love my skinnies.

This is brilliant for pocket advice
