Mixing fabrics - a very "back to basics" question!

I have just bought a new black blazer. would you wear this with black 7/8's trousers even if the fabrics don't match?! i thought if i wear it layered with a longer top, this would sit between the two fabrics and look ok?!

I think it can look a bit weird, the tone and texture can look off.

It's not about the fabric - in fact the same fabric would look like a work suit or too matchy - but more if the blacks are the same shade of black. I wear a lot of black but some things I'd like to wear together just don't go because one black is darker than the other.
