Help - "Last Days of the Raj"

I've been invited to a really fancy 50th birthday party with the above theme. I am not a particularly dressy person and haven't been to a "fancy dress" party since I was about 12.

I'm 5'7" and a size 12 hourglass, if that makes a difference. Being comfortable is important!

Any ideas?!

I will struggle with footwear - I'm a size 9 to 10 and usually have to choose any outfit around shoes.

TIA

Did you watch any of Indian Summers on channel 4? Look it up if you didn't, they should inspire you!

I covet dresses from here although not sure if there's anything particularly era appropriate www.unique-vintage.com/clothing/dresses/cocktail.html

The Raj ended in late 40s so that's the era to go for, avoiding heavy materials though and probably on the modest side...

What's your budget? Im picturing a silk midi tea dress.

Thanks for the replies. I don't want to spend too much; £100 tops but would rather keep it under 60 or 70. I have some darkish green shoes that would work... wondering if I need to get my hair done a certain way too

Search for tea dresses on ASOS. There are a few long length ones that could work.

YY to gettingyour hair done, it could make a huge difference to the overall look. Ditto thinking about make up - Matte red lips etc
