Arrgghh, dd and bras

Have posted before about my 15 year old dd and bras. Basically she has developed my curvy figure but refuses to wear proper support. She is also VERY fussy about her bras making it difficult or impossible to find some that she's happy with.

She had been wearing these for the past few years:

www.johnlewis.com/john-lewis-dd-plus-non-wired-t-shirt-bra/p1429176?colour=Black

In white and nude. However she had been wearing a D or DD cup which I know is far too small for her.

Her criteria were - not underwired, very plain, no lace etc, only white or nude. She won't be measured in a shop, she did measure her back size a few months ago which was a 30 and I'm guessing she needs around an F cup.

I recently bought loads of different bras from Debenhams online (including the same style she had in a bigger cup size) and left them for her to try. She said none of them were any good with the exception of one which she said was 'too big'. I find this very hard to believe looking at the volume of the cup.

She has now added 'no padding' to the criteria so that rules out the one I linked to above Hmm

She did mention a year or two ago about minimiser bras but from what I can see online they are all underwired. But I'm sure if they were properly fitted she would find them comfortable.

Any advice please? Her friends don't seem to be particularly flat chested so it's not like she's the only one....but she dances a lot so I suppose she sees a bigger bust not being ideal.

It was all about matchy matchy with my dd at 15....knickers and then suggested matching bra. One step at a time. My dd I is 25 now. We went to see our GP when she was 15 worried about the size of her breasts and the difficulty we had 10 years ago to find big enough bras. The GP just laughed at her. What a complete fuckwit. Poor thing has struggled for 10 years. I must say that she does have a rather super bra collection now....but....we're going to ceremoniously burn the lot. At 25 and 34hh she has just had a breast reduction on the 17 June. She will be a 34c. So we will be bra shopping again when she's fully recovered. Seriously the day after the op she stud in the garden flashing her boobs. There's no keeping the little fuckers under wraps now. Grin

I know its wired, but the Berlei sports bra is very plain, not padded, sleek and comfortable.

StatisticallyChallenged · 06/07/2016 14:36

Cazakstan just a word of warning, I've come across quite a few people who have been told that they will be a C or D cup post reduction only to end up several sizes larger. Likewise with implants actually. I think some surgeons aren't actually very good at bra sizing, it's like they suffer from the same D cup = huge delusions as the daily mail.

Friends went from a 30h to a 30f. Still a huge reduction but not a C as promised. Just so your DD isn't too disappointed if they are bigger than expected. I'd be inclined to suggest she makes sure her first post surgery fitting is Bravissimo or at least John Lewis.

My dd did a 180 degree on bras when I took her to the Victoria Secret flagship store on new Bond Street. She has big boobs and now costs me a fortune in bras but feels happy with her boobs, so worth it.

If your dd is looking to minimise though I would seriously consider a breast reduction as a possibility. Everyone I know who has had one wishes they had done it earlier.

DilysPrice · 07/07/2016 07:51

I'm sure Statistically didn't mean to impugn your surgeon's medical skills cazakstan, I'm sure he's great. But there are two very different, very widely used systems for assessing bra sizes in the UK, so it wouldn't be surprising if a surgeon used the M&S method so that the size they call C, which M&S would fit to a C, is actually the same size as Bravissimo would fit to an E cup. Doesn't mean they're larger than intended. Many congrats on your DD's successful surgery.

Oxfam will take the redundant supersize bras btw.

MrsJayy · 07/07/2016 07:57

My DDS are weird about bras but they are not as big as your DD must be hard for her would she consider a sports bra no under wire no padding but supportive DD wears them for work (police officer) so she can run and they are kept in place

Jeremysfavouriteaunt · 07/07/2016 08:13

Cazakstan what a completely over the top and rude reaction to a perfectly reasonable comment that was trying to be helpful.
FWIW I had a reduction and agree with her.

Cazakstan · 07/07/2016 08:23

Victoria secret are fabulous...what teenager or young lady wouldn't want to shop there. Once you have the correct size you can order online from the U.S. Great when there's a sale. My dd used to shop at La Senza until they closed their local store. Agent provocateur are fab too but pricey...seriously huge savings again when they have a sale...sometimes as much as 90% off. You just need to keep looking. I may be a bit touchy on the subject of my dds boobs but they are fantastic and after all the years of turmoil which included a suicide attempt she is over the moon. Breast reduction is an option but I would think that 15 is probably a little too young....your body's still changing. If you have an understanding GP op then it's worth mentioning your dds concerns. Breast reduction is still available on the nhs if you fit the criteria.

I rate rigby and peller too.

saylortwift · 07/07/2016 09:12

OP i am a 30f or there about and when I really don't feel like wearing a proper bra I find the 'magic bra' that they sell in pound shops to be stretchy enough to hold my boobs in and for comfortable. Although it isn't the best support it is a lot better than nothing.
They come in S M L sizes. A large or medium might be good for her to try.

I felt the same about my figure as a teen, I'm sure she must be wanting to have them look smaller. A well fitted bra would make them very high, firm and stand out. And that is the opposite of what she wants.
I think I'm the dance world, generally speaking, breasts aren't very common and her peers are likely to be very flat chested.

Another thing to consider, is she getting attention that she is not comfortable at school with about her bust?

I got sexually harassed by boys and bullied by girls from 12 years old because of mine. I thought it was my fault so I wore looser shirts and tried to wear bras to flatten them down.
I didn't really tell anyone what I was going through, I didn't realise the severity of it at the time.

I am NOT saying you DD is being bullied and I hope to god she is not.

But for many reasons i can understand why she wants the kind of bras that she does.

saylortwift · 07/07/2016 09:16

They look like this, there is more room in the cup that it appears. They come in black, white and nude

Arrgghh, dd and bras
imjessie · 07/07/2016 09:54

I bought this bra yesterday and it's soooo comfy and soft . I've never come across a bra white as soft and it comes in bigger sizes too . May be worth a try .

Arrgghh, dd and bras
imjessie · 07/07/2016 09:55

Quite even ... It also comes in loads of colours and patterns .

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/07/2016 10:58

WTF Cazakstan. Just wtf. I'm not remotely bitter. What a ridiculous comment. Why would I be bitter because someone else's boobs weren't the cup size they expected. Surgeons are not bra fitters. I know someone else who had implants and was apparently going to be a 32C or small D. Yeah. She's a size 6 and would never be a 32, Bravissimo fitting and she's a 28FF. Surgeons are good at giving people nice looking breasts, not fitting bras.

I have a huge amount of knowledge about bra fitting. I have helped hundreds of women on here to find bras which fit them. I have no need to Google Sadie the fucking bra lady. VS are notorious in the bra fitting community for not having a clue about fitting, they are terrible. Bras might be good but fitting is not.

I have helped numerous women who have been made to feel like freaks by bad bra fitters. They've gone to M&S or La Senza or VS abd been told their breasts are too small for a bra, or too big, or a weird shape. Almost invariably I've - along with the other crazy bra ladies on here - been able to help these women to feel comfortable, physically and mentally. I support women to feel good about themselves.

How about you don't be so bloody rude to someone who was trying to be helpful. I figured it might be better for your daughter to hear from you that surgeons aren't great at estimating size and that the letter isn't important, it's the result that matters, rather than her going for a fitting and ending up upset in the shop because she's maybe not the size she expected. But hey if she gets fitted in VS they'll probably have her in a C, just three back sizes too big which will do her new breasts no favours at all. But I'm just bitter.

Thank you to those who stood up for me.

StatisticallyChallenged · 07/07/2016 11:41

And whether a 15 year old needs a solid underwired bra or can get away with something more delicate depends almost entirely on the size of her breasts. There are many 15 year olds with large heavy breasts. If they wear something which isn't suitably supportive then the end result of that is generally upper back, shoulder or neck pain which can be agonising. Recommending that a well fitting bra is worn does not make me a "horrid fucking cow"

Jeremysfavouriteaunt · 07/07/2016 11:48
