Talk to me about Mac lipstick

Seriously thinking about getting the lippy in the attached pic but the £18 price tag is making me cautious.

I've bought mid range lipsticks before (Boots No.7; Clinique etc) and they've all been rubbish really. Too waxy, too drying, too matte, stays on for 2 mins, stays on for 24hrs and leaves you looking like you've got raw mince stuck on your lips - the usual.

Has anyone got experience of MAC lippy and how was it?

I just can't face chucking more good money after bad lipsticks again!

People always wax lyrically about MAC lipstick but personally I prefer to spend a bit more on something special like a Chanel which feels more value for money if you factor in the packaging, quality, longevity, etc. or go to Kiko. The quality of Kiko lipsticks are just as good as MAC while having a similar large range of colours and finishes.

I was considering Chanel or Tom Ford but that MAC lippy is a lovely colour. Did you find MAC to be waxy/claggy? Also never heard of KIKO must check that out x

My DD has a Mac lipstick... I found it quite dry, and it tasted funny too. I've always liked Revlon lipsticks.

I know next to nothing about make up but just an FYI that MAC test on animals. This stopped me buying their mascara

I love them, have tried to replicate but keep going back to Mac. Good pigment and lovely texture that isn't dry and draggy or so slippy it slides off.

In that case, Tom Ford and Chanel both are not cruelty free. Tom Ford lipsticks also go off very quickly which I tend to find unforgivable at that price.

Kiko is cruelty free.

Tom ford is fabulous. Best on the market. Chanel has a better range though IMO.

I would buys other over Mac tbh.

I think Topshop lipstick is the best I've ever tried. Stays on, isn't drying, and is only about £8. I can't tell exactly what colour the one in the picture is but Hazard is a perfect deepish red.

MAC have a wide range of different lipsticks, Matt, sheer, satin etc. I wear MAC lipsticks daily, usually Velvet teddy or Brave. I recommend going to a MAC counter if you live nearby one, and testing new a few. In my opinion, they have the best range of colours. I use a lip liner to fill in my lips beforehand which seems to keep the lipstick on longer.

Just read that they test on animals. I never knew that.

Another brand that I use is illamasqua, I have some lovely coloured lipsticks from them, they last very long, heavily pigmentated and aren't drying.

MAC have a great range of colours and formulas but I think they are over priced and over rated to be honest. Even the non-matte formulas are very drying for me. Kiko and Revlon are excellent and about half the price of MAC, I would go for them instead

I'm really liking the sound of KIKO. I'm just going to have a look online to see where they stock their stuff. Not paying P&P for a lippy tightarse

Kiko is only sold in their own stores but they're sprouting up everywhere at the moment. I think the Kiko website might do free shipping, can't remember for sure. It just takes a while coming from Italy. There's always tons of offers floating around too.

If they're still selling the urban sheen lipglosses in the sale, be sure to pick one up. They're a dead ringer for Chanel's new lipgloss/lipstick/balm hybrid in a pencil form. Really nice finish for day to day in summery colours, all the benefit of a bright without that full on feel.

You can buy Kiko on eBay from European sellers, I use their mascara and always get it from eBay with free postage.
I have a couple of Mac lipsticks - love the colours but they are nothing special in terms of quality. No better than Rimmel or Revlon in my opinion, it's just they have a greater range of colours.

I'm 99% sure Urban Decay will have a colour to match that, they do good strong colours and when I was in the other day they had a bunch of new ones out.

Avon have a great range, which they claim are more matte than Mac. They do stay on quite well and are only £5ish

I love Mac colours but I find their lipsticks so drying. I always end up buying similar colours from max factor instead as they don't irritate me.

MAC who are owned by Estée Lauder only test on animals because they sell to the Chinese market and to sell make up there it must of been tested on animals

Estée Lauder also have to test on animals along with any other company who supply China which is quite a lot

China are the cruelest country in the world in my eyes
