Decent hair dyes?

Another hair question ..I have dark brown hair but underneath I've had highlights (light brown) I wear extensions and the salon normally dyes my hair (the front bit) as the rest is extensions.
The only thing is she charges £72 for literally a tiny piece of hair.
Before my next extension apt I'm thinking of dying using box dye.
Any good brands that will dye it a nice medium brown and not black?

I last used garnier nutrisse number 5 which is brown (5 is a mid brown colour - the lower the number the darker it will be). Doesn't make it too dark either

I been using Shwarzkopf poly colour tint in either natural brown or medium brown for a darker look - absolute bargain at around £2 - although it doesn't come with conditioner, you just use your own. Im really pleased with the results every time, shiny hair & great colour.
