?
Please don't let this descend into a gender issue- quite happy to discuss male politicians too.

But if she is to be PM as looks likely she needs some serious intervention. Her outfit today was ghastly- a cheap shot a wearing tartan to unite the UK.
Her blouse is gaping around her tummy showing skin.

Since she's been in politics, her hair has gone grey, she has terrible eye bags, and she looks much older than she is imo.

Yes, of course her work is the most important thing, but over the years her outfits have been a huge distraction - the garish patchwork coat, the evening dress showing her shoulders , and more....

OP posts:

If you are into this kind of thing, here's an article from the New York Times in 1993 talking about how men's clothing can be unmarked (eg suits) but women's clothing is always an active choice and a statement.

Dungandbother · 02/07/2016 01:48

Theresa

If you're reading this

I think you look absolutely great. Your clothes sense is fine and you suit your profession.

However. Get a new hairdresser. Either have a fringe or grow it out properly. I think shorter is better but not your current stylist. Their scissor skills are failing you.

Your colour is just fine. I like the grey and blonde interspersed. You are older and that's just fine by me. You look great.

Bet you've had the same hairdresser for years and you're scared to get someone new. Well pay someone else and properly change it up.

Cherryminx · 02/07/2016 01:58

I don't care what she wears but maybe avoid this:

OP you're a fucking idiot.

CodewordRochambeau · 02/07/2016 04:34

What a misogynistic post, OP.

CodewordRochambeau · 02/07/2016 04:37

PS this parodic New Statesman article is two years old but highly relevant to this thread.

Michael Gove flaunts his embonpoint in this open suit jacket - he knows he has what men want (great off-the-record briefings) and he's not afraid to show it. He is carrying this season's "generic man bag", though, which lets the ensemble down. Next time, he should keep it classic with an LK Bennett tote in a jewel tone.

BarmySmarmy · 02/07/2016 07:03

Making comments about eye bags and grey hair is not lighthearted S&B material, surely? And if it is, it assumes that natural signs of aging in women are a bad thing. It can't not be a gender issue, really.

If her clothes are distracting I think it says something about the attention span of the distracted , to be honest!

albertcampionscat · 02/07/2016 07:07

Whatever the fuck she wants. Michael Gove - what should he wear?

DetestableHerytike · 02/07/2016 07:23

Op, I don't believe that you are friends with a bunch of 60 somethings whose hair is neither grey nor undyed.

And even if you are, how do you expect Theresa May to achieve this?

You can't just be horrible and then say "light hearted" afterwards!

Theresa May dresses professionally and looks at ease in her clothes. Fine by me.

DinosaursRoar · 02/07/2016 07:39

Wow, mid-30s and about 1/3 of my hair is coming through white now, would be properly grey if I didn't dye it, clearly I'm failing. If I got to May's stage of being mainly grey/white hairs, I'd stop dying too.

The gaping shirt wasn't a good look, but ill fitting shirts don't look good on male politicians either.

justbogoff · 02/07/2016 08:08

I think she looks great at the Asian women's awards.

Playduh · 02/07/2016 08:10

She usually looks great. But if in doubt; steal Nicola's stylist.

Simple Grin

lasttimeround · 02/07/2016 09:22

As long as in ballpark of appropriate I don't see why we would discuss this. She's the Home Secretary gunning for leadership. She's the most competent tory MP for miles and I don't vote tory or like her but yes she's proven her capabilities. I hate that women get put to this kind of scrutiny in a way that men don't and in a way that makes many of us duck out of the spotlight.

Backingvocals · 02/07/2016 09:38

I rather like that Thatcher jumper. Give it a better neckline and it would be cool (and a good thing to wear on the march).

Leviticus · 02/07/2016 09:55

Just because you've started with 'don't let this descend into a gender issue' doesn't make it not a gender issue.

You could ask the same question about the male candidates but you haven't.

This is what it is, despite your protestations.

ZaraW · 02/07/2016 10:22

Mrs T's jumper would be good for the Eurovision......

Trills · 02/07/2016 10:23

That Thatcher jumper WOULD be a great thing to wear on a pro-EU march :o

CodewordRochambeau · 02/07/2016 10:33

I can totally see that Thatcher jumper in Boden AW16.

DetestableHerytike · 02/07/2016 10:49

Mitzy, Portillo likes to be colourful - he did some programme about European railways and always had bright jackets and shirts.

DetestableHerytike · 02/07/2016 10:52

Liam Fox, 54, grey.
Michael Gove, 48, half grey.

Guess neither of them would make your friendship group, OP.

specialsubject · 02/07/2016 10:52

Her hair looks good. Dyed hair is very ageing - there's that ballerina in the boots anti ageing ad who looks ten years older due to blackened hair ( quite funny really given the subject of the ad).

The shame yesterday was the duchess of Cambridge doing the arse out duck walk due to her usual ridiculous heels, which work even less well on grass. Given where she was, very embarrassing.

EmmaWoodlouse · 02/07/2016 10:54

Silly answer - "being PM is very unfashionable, avoid at all costs."

Sensible answer - "don't hide the grey, wear quite neutral clothes - well cut, not too clingy, not too baggy, with one interesting accessory."

Destinysdaughter · 02/07/2016 10:54

Personally I think she'll need a bloody good suit of armour for the task she faces!

RoganJosh · 02/07/2016 10:59

I don't think there's much to be discussed about her 'terrible eye bags' and 'going grey'.

Trills · 02/07/2016 11:01
