Gradual tanners - recommend me one

I bought the palmers one. I love the smell but even using one of the mitts it streaks horribly on me for some reason - my arms are ok but my legs look awful!

I've got some body shop wash off make up which I like but I'd like to build a bit of a fake base tan.

Which ones are good?

Fake Bake - swear by the stuff. here

Chocolateteabag · 30/06/2016 12:55

Don't bother! - Try Cocoa Brown mousse - £8 on LookFantastic.

It has a guide colour and goes on really easily. Doesn't smell much at all and gives a really nice colour in an hour. I'm a pale skinned English rose type and it's great - slap it on in the morning when it's sunny and can go out straight away wearing shorts/skirt as legs have a bit of colour but gets better through the day.

The gradual build tanners get to a decent colour at the same time the top layer of skin then starts to peel off.

Dove summer glow is good £1.99 in savers/bodycare or for deeper colour the st tropez gradual tan.

WellTidy · 30/06/2016 14:24

I like the st tropez one that you use in the shower. Doesn't streak at all, and the colour maintains. It says yo use it every three days, but I use it daily to get the colour, and then every three days. I am pale skinned and only want a slight tan, not a deep colour.

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 30/06/2016 16:32

Thanks all I will try one or two of these!

ChocolateTeabag - can you link the one you mentioned? Don't know if it's just sold out but I can't find it.

Cocoa brown mousse is horrible and one of the lowest rasted self tannera known to man. I'd avoid it like the plague. Try bondi sands or for a cheaper tan go for rimmel

I used Cocoa Brown last year - its good but now use St Tropez Tinted Gradual Tanner. Smells nice and you can see it as you apply it. I am so pale and this doesn't make me look like I've been doused in creosote.

Madbengalmum · 30/06/2016 17:50

St tropez gradual tan moisturiser or la mer gradual tan.

Chocolateteabag · 30/06/2016 17:59

Cocoa Brown One Hour Mousse

Sorry it was Feel Unique not Look Fantastic

This is the one DoesMyBumLook40 uses/recommends (I'm not her!). Lots of other people on her blog comments seem to agree with her (am a sheep so I tried it)

Dripdrop · 30/06/2016 18:05

I like the dove one. It does make yyou very glittery though

seefeld · 30/06/2016 18:09

Not cheap but I love the Clarins drops you add to your normal body moisturizer. Only using a few drops at a time does mean the bottle lasts for ages though - that's how I justify it anyway!

I just used Dove this morning but in different packaging. £3.49 half priced at boots. Lovely even colour where my Avon/Johnsons streaked

JapaneseSlipper · 30/06/2016 22:31

The Dove one turned my legs yellow, not brown.

One thing I am starting to think about gradual tanners is that buying the light/medium shade is a waste of time and money. I'm really pale but from now on I'm getting dark. Hopefully better colour payoff faster and for the same price. (I would never buy dark in a normal tanner, but the gradual ones are designed to be subtle iyswim)

I usually use St Tropez but I'm going to try Fake Bake next. Recent spray tan has made me realise just how crap the result is with a gradual tan!

MsAdorabelleDearheartVonLipwig · 30/06/2016 22:59

I tried the shower St Tropez several times and ended up throwing it in the bin. I couldn't see one single hint of a tan. It did absolutely nothing on my skin. The ordinary St Tropez mousse is brilliant.

vintagechick43 · 01/07/2016 08:21

I've tried so many gradual tans over the years and my top one is l'oreal sublime bronze gradual tan, does have the horrible fake smell though. St moriz gradual tan is quite good if you want one without the smell.

BadlyDrawnBuoy · 01/07/2016 08:30

Vita liberata is great. You can buy it in Boots - it's a higher end gradual tanner, costs around £15, but it doesn't streak and the resulting colour is lovely.

imnottoofussed · 01/07/2016 08:31

Has anyone tried the bondi sands gradual tanner? I saw it in super drug at the weekend and debated buying it. It's in a pink bottle think it said mousse.

itsgoingtoofast · 01/07/2016 08:33

Bondi sands is the best I've tried. Smells lovely and a great colour!

Cutecat78 · 01/07/2016 08:33

I second Dove summer glow £1.99 from
savers - last year I had loads of people saying what a great tan I had (I don't tan, I came back from Egypt with no tan Blush)

Dafadddu · 01/07/2016 14:39

I love Sienna X
