Earrings hurt my ears

My ears get sore and itchy after only a couple of hours wearing earrings, even quite expensive ones.
The only ones that don't trouble me are those with an "andralok" fastening, but I've only seen them in Argos, limiting the range I can buy.
Are they sold in jewellers or anywhere else?

You maybe have a nickel allergy and the backings you're using are cheap silver and high in nickel content?

Get some from a jewellers shop. (Not argos. Somewhere with a real jeweller who will know the difference) and give The a shot

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 30/06/2016 18:59

I am allergic to nickel and can only wear most earrings for an evening, any longer and Iget itchy sire ears like you describe for ordinary day to day wear I have silver hoops.

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 30/06/2016 18:59

You can also buy plastic backs

doctorboo · 30/06/2016 19:20

I get my andralok earrings off eBay.

Cakescakescakes · 30/06/2016 19:22

I have super allergic ears and can only wear titanium studs. I just order them online. Google allergy earrings and there's loads of options.

Blueberryblueberry · 30/06/2016 19:36

Don't know about the backs but Sometimes a blob of Vaseline on your ears before putting them in can help - not for all the time but useful if you have specific earrings for an event or something? Smile

PotOfYoghurt · 30/06/2016 19:46

What about sterling silver? They don't bother mine while most others do.

mrsclooneytoyou · 30/06/2016 19:53

I cover all earrings and backs in clear nail varnish due to my allergy.
I also do this with rings a metal buttons.

buttertoffee · 30/06/2016 19:54

what metal/material you currently wearing?

pippinandtog · 30/06/2016 20:02

Some tips worth trying here, thanks all.
Buttertoffee, currently wearing gold andralok earrings, which I can leave in all the time with no discomfort, so I think it's contact with a butterfly which causes irritation.

I have titanium studs too, everything else makes my ears sore

Jammygal · 30/06/2016 20:52

I'm the same can only wear sterling silver ;)

FuckingMother · 30/06/2016 21:14

I can only wear gold - get me!
Try covering the posts in clear nail varnish. I also clean my ears and earrings in rubbing alcohol daily. I don't wear earrings anymore because of it but if I did, I would react to gold then it would calm down over a couple of weeks and they would be OK. I never wear cheap shit earrings. Within seconds my lobes go red and itchy then gunky. Clean your ears regularly and ensure you have clean hands and earrings.

Good luck

DangerQuakeRhinoSnake · 30/06/2016 21:17

I used to dip the stems in vaseline before wearing.

Tiggeryoubastard · 30/06/2016 21:20

It's the size of the posts sometimes - I can't wear earrings with really thick posts, they hurt. I always look at people with plugs in their ears with awe.

CotswoldStrife · 30/06/2016 21:27

I have found my people - my ears do this too. I used to be able to wear any cheap earrings all kinds but now only gold . Have even tried stainless steel without success but with gunky ears (there is a company that specialises in earrings for sensitive ears) and my next hope was medical plastic.

TrollTheRespawnJeremy · 30/06/2016 23:05

I wear wooden earrings as they seem to be fine as well

DramaAlpaca · 30/06/2016 23:16

I have a nickel allergy & can only wear gold or silver earrings.

I have lots of cheap & cheerful dangly earrings & have replaced all the hooks with sterling silver ones that I bought online. I only ever buy gold or silver studs, making sure that the butterfly fastenings are gold or silver too.

MarklahMarklah · 30/06/2016 23:22

I can only wear pure metals. Nickel etc. irritates.
That said, I wear silver hoops all the time. No idea when I last took them out.

MitzyLeFrouf · 01/07/2016 00:01

I can wear sterling silver earrings and I can wear really cheapo ones but the in betweeny ones make my earlobes feel itchy and hot.

Passthecake30 · 04/07/2016 21:47

Only sterling silver for me...anything else makes my ears hot or heavy...
