Anyone else hate the hairdressers blowdry?

Honestly my hair is fine and no matter which hairdressers I go I end up looking like it's stuck to my head.
No volume it's just lank and straight.
Then they go over it with straighteners which makes it even worse.
No matter how many times j say I like volume.
Why can't they do a blow dry with volume.

Do you have a headmasters salon in your area? Their blow dries are amazing

FeliciaJollygoodfellow · 03/07/2016 20:43

I have naturally curly hair. Hairdressers panic if I say I want it dried into natural curls,as they never have a diffuser (or if they do, it's broken and has to be taped onto the hairdryer) and they never have silicone and sulfate free products. If I ask for a curly blow dry it's nice, but I can do it better myself tbh.

It's better than it used to be. I used to come out with a curly crash helmet when I was younger.

littleladybird14 · 03/07/2016 20:50

I started seeing a new friend who is a mobile hairdresser, she went straight ahead and gave me a big curly blow dry at the end (a norm of her usual clients I think!), even after each visit I'd say I want it straight she'd still get out all the brushes to leave to set in my hair! Had my husband in stitches every time as it just wasn't me at all! I've been secretly getting my hair cut elsewhere for the past 6 months Confused

lisacammyjacksmum · 03/07/2016 21:07

My hair is exactly the same, its fine and wavy and every time they blow dry it poker straight and straighten it flat to my head , I prefer volume in my hair

lapsedorienteerer · 03/07/2016 21:10

I have very fine, straight hair which I have in a short bob. By trial and error I realised about 4 years ago that I could ave at least £10 per 6-8 weeks by asking for a wet cut. Same result without the unwanted blow dry :)

gunsandbanjos · 03/07/2016 21:27

I cut my own hair, I've got very curly hair and I'm yet to find a hairdresser who makes a decent job of it.

Bogeyface · 03/07/2016 21:32

I hate going to the hairdressers full stop.

I walk in looking like me and I walk out looking like a pantomime dame. My problem is that I get given BIGGGGGGG hair! I have fine volumeless hair, but thats ok because I have learned what styles I can wear that suit me, my hair type and dont involve lots of styling. I am sure that they think that they are doing me a favour but I feel like Mrs Slocombe by the time I leave :o

Tartyflette · 03/07/2016 21:38

Poker straight hair is a very hard look, ok if you're 18 and totally beautiful, but otherwise, not so much. I always blow dry mine myself to avoid the flat look. Even if i say i'd like it bouncy they can't seem to do it as well ad I can.

2boys3kids · 03/07/2016 21:44

Lmao at chrystal tipps! Mine is like that too, I can't get it to look right no matter what I do. I would go to the salon more to get a blow dry, I just don't get the time Hmm

VulpesVulpes · 03/07/2016 22:09

No matter what hair dresser I go to they always ask if they can straighten it as a challenge (it's not THAT curly but certainly more than most). I hate having it straight but it's better than what they do to it otherwise! I prefer to let my hair air dry, otherwise I end up with an Afro. By the time they have finished cutting it it's already partially dry and beginning to turn Afro so I just let them straighten it, I always have to rush home and wash it after a hair dresser visit anyway.

Jojofjo44 · 03/07/2016 22:24

Why do none of you ladies that leave the hairdressers unsatisfied not tell them so that they can do it to your satisfaction?

Majesticdoughnut · 03/07/2016 22:31

I am a hairdresser and as such I know how to blow dry without finishing with straighteners. A lot of stylists are lazy now, don't get me wrong they make things easier for curly hair but a blow dry should be just that Grin

katemiddletonsnudeheels · 03/07/2016 22:33

I always come out with a massive bouffant Grin

Then I wash and dry it myself!

NeverNic · 03/07/2016 22:35

Quite often had this problem with previous hairdressers. Nice and swishy, but no lift in the crown, not helped by too much product. I've have been to my hairdresser for 6 years and he LOVES the fact I like big hair. Occasionally he goes a little nuts with the height but that's normally if I say I'm going out later - so it doesn't drop too much. Normally though it's wonderfully bouncy and swishy. He also never uses straighteners except to curl for up dos, and for giving a smooth finish for properly coarse, frizzy hair. Ask for height on the crown and no product, as well as no straighteners op

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 04/07/2016 08:08

When I trained we used the hairdryer and brush. Nothing else. I have a pair of straighteners but haven't used them in years. It used to annoy me that for a good 3 years I wasn't able to put my skills into use as EVERYONE wanted bloody poker straight hair. We had trainees that struggled when the fad finally passed and they had to learn blow drying all over again. At one point all clients were being passed to me to finish. I don't work in hairdressing anymore and I never tell people as the amount of freebies people tried squeezing out of me took the piss. My sisters friend turned up one evening with wet hair for a blow dry before a big date. I was out and she kicked off with my husband. Apparently my sister told her to just turn up. Anyway I digress. Blow drying nearly became extinct and I was devastated. :o

magratvonlipwig · 04/07/2016 08:22

Same here. She does a fabulous cut which i can always style exactly as i want it to be. She , like yours, leaves me poker straight no curve and then puts waxy stuff on.

I just go home and wash it. Dont want to change salon cos I love the cut and love the place.

opalescent · 04/07/2016 08:33

Oh my god this thread!! I thought I was the only person who hated a hairdresser blow-dry..
I roughly dry my hair at home, quite often I do it upside down too. Then I just love it all day. It's straight, but has body and moves nicely and looks fine imo.
Every hairdresser I've ever had blow dried it totally flat and straight, so I look like a 90s throwback. Vile. I am always desperate to ruffle it up, and always wash and dry it again immediately when I get home. I have asked for volume SO MANY times.
I hate it so much that I dread bumping into anyone I know when I leave the hairdressers!!

user1467042399 · 04/07/2016 08:40

I'm so pleased it's not just me although I don't enjoy sharing my suffering ;-)
I would love one of those blow drys where they put all the brushes in your hair.
My hairdresser says that's not a service they offer.
My aunty always leaves the hairdressers with wet hair as she also hates the blow dry.

I have very thick coarse hair.I find it unmanageable as I’ve got older and like a good blow dry every week .Ive been to about a hundred hairdressers in the last 20 years and in my experience 8/10 can’t blow dry .

beanaseireann · 26/01/2019 08:40

I love getting my hair blow dried.
However it is very expensive now in many salons in Dublin.

Villanelley · 26/01/2019 11:45

I always come out looking like an 80s news reader. Grim but she's a great colourist so I refuse to go elsewhere.

ThanksForAllTheFish · 26/01/2019 12:02

I usually don’t mind the blow dry and straightening. My hair is naturally curly and it’s nice to wear it straight sometimes. Also as mentioned previously by other posters, it’s not worth asking them to blow dry it curly.

What I do hate is they dry it very flat to my head around the front (the face framing part) and it makes my round face look even rounder. I like to blow dry the front parts with lift up away from my face (almost like a cows lick) as it make me look 100% better and suits my face better. I’ve asked them to do this at the hairdresser loads of times but they never quite get it right and I can’t wait to get home and fix it.

beanaseireann · 26/01/2019 13:33

Villanelly
Just think someone's 80's newsreader look is someone else's brilliant blowdry Smile

QuimReaper · 26/01/2019 15:55

This is a zom Fred but 8m glad it's been zommed!
