Dd is just turned 11 and is getting little spots around her hairline couple on her nose and I've noticed a couple on her face!

I've not got the best skin routine and would like to get her into a routine but don't know what to get her!?

I bought my DS tea tree oil face wash from Boots (own brand). It smells lovely and clean and seems to minimise pimples without drying his skin out, plus isn't harsh or abrasive as others seem to be.

Do you think I should get her a moisturiser too?

Following as DS1 has just turned 12 and suddenly has loads of blackheads and quite a few proper spots

Get a non comedogenic moisturiser, I think Neutrogena do one.

If they get bad or start to affect her take to GP if over the counter stuff doesn't work

Is she actually washing her face daily with a clean flannel/ muslin cloth?

I know it sounds obvious but that alone makes a massive difference to my ds's skin rather than just a quick splash in the shower.

change her pillowcase daily and make sure she has clean hair and hands as well as face.

A simple face wash and oil free moisturiser should sort it out.

If they get lots worse go to the GP.

Sounds obvious but don't wash too much as it may stimulate more oil production. And NEVER squeeze spots as it will scar.

A mild toner after washing should remove excess dirt from pores. The only moisturiser I'd use would be an oil-free face cream with SPF during the day.

Tie hair back loosely at night to keep it away from her face.

Often spots are caused by hormones. If her skin gets worse make an appointment with the GP for treatment.

I had mild acne which got progressively worse, leaving me with pock-marked, scarred skin. I wish I'd been taken to the GP to get my spots sorted before they took over my face!

I used to have a spot problem, I used the moisturiser from clearasil and it really helped.

I've bought her the tea tree foam wash,tea tree toner, tea tree moisturiser and the blemish dab stick

I think she could be just splashing her face every night in the shower so I'll go over a washing regime with her tonight

Anything foaming isn't great tbh and best avoided.

Sounds good, but has she asked for your advice on this?
When I was that age I remember wanting ways to feel more 'grown up' - my mum fed me some spiel about how French women always looked after their faces and if I cleansed and moisterised starting now I'd be beautiful all my life Anyhow, I really enjoyed using the products she got me (nothing fancy, just superdrug/boots stuff)
But if your DD hasn't thought about this, being presented with a full-blown beauty regime might feel a little intimidating?!

Every night after her shower she lathers herself in different creams and lotions I caught her putting body lotion all over her face last night so I don't think she will mind and it will be using proper stuff

I was the opposite my mum washing her face at night and that was it I didn't know about face creams etc and I had awful skin

Foaming products contain surfactants for the foam, which are alkali based, which in turn is a breeding ground for spots. Superdrug do a good cheap range called naturally radiant. Cleanser and moisturiser/serum (no need to avoid oils) from there and a toner (the clearasil 4 hour action face pads are great as a toner, NOT a cleanser) after cleansing.

Definitely agree with pps suggesting the GP if they get bad. DM was no use when I had spots and it wasn't until I was an adult that I took myself off and got sorted out really quickly.

Yeah I'd Defo take her if it got bad I had acne on my back and I was always at doctors for it

Don't wanna be patronising but tbh beyond buying her some good quality cleansing products which won't be too rough on her skin (e.g. Avène, have also heard fab things about Eucerin from someone who had severe acne), I think the best thing is just to encourage the thought that it's not 'bad' or 'trouble' skin but just normal skin....I was never bothered by my spots unless people pointed them out. Judy Blume told me it was normal and that was enough reassurance I just wouldn't make too big a deal out of it I guess. She should only put effort into getting rid of them if she wants to. It's not a health issue. Actually I think it's a feminist issue maybe introduce these gentle cleaning products as 'good for healthy skin' rather than 'stuff to fight spots with'. The only negative feelings I ever had about spots when they appeared got there by way of other people. Surely confidence is more important than having perfectly clear skin, esp. when 50% of people around you are going through the same thing!

Sorry, of course I'm not talking about acne, I'm just going off my experience, I was quite spotty but it wasn't serious, was assuming the OP was about the same.
But it does sound like it's less than what I had, after rereading the OP! Sounds less than I have now actually

She's only got the odd spot (she had a biggish one on her nose) just want to get her into a cleansing routine as my mum never done it with me

Dd had bad acne and took accutane last year. Now she has really good skin with the odd couple of tiny spots.

A mum told her she was really pretty now her skin had cleared up

She said 'thanks, I was pretty before'
