I want a leather jacket, and also not to look stupid

Right, so I am over 40. I have boobs. Am a size 12.

I don't want to look mumsy, I also don't want to look like I couldn't let go of my punk youth.

What sort of leather jacket would look OK, oh wise ones?

(p.s if relevant, i also have short blond hair and am 5'6)

Watching this with interest. I've bought various leather jackets over the years, but always look like Suzi Quatro's older sister in them.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 18/06/2016 13:01

The massimo dutti is not half price though. It's about 30% off

KittyKrap · 18/06/2016 13:05

I bought a Vivienne Westwood black leather jacket (in the sale!!!) two years ago. DH persuaded me to blow one of my months wages on it - long story - anyway, I wear it virtually every day/night.

Nepotism · 18/06/2016 18:00

I'm a 5' 9 size 12 but have big boobs, so I often need large tops. Their bottoms come up small too.

CointreauVersial · 18/06/2016 18:37

Mango have some cracking suede jackets and coats in their sale. Some less than £40!

AuntieStella · 18/06/2016 18:46

I'm looking for a biker jacket too.

Must be leather, ideally with a lining other than polyester, no with pockets deep enough to put purse/phone/bus pass/keys in.

Cut for curvy, if possible - I'm size 10/12 in most makes, but have boobs that can mean tops in 14 or higher.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

Mrs9C · 20/06/2016 14:25

Also here for the same thing, also with boobs! Hoping to catch something in the sales...

Mrs9C · 20/06/2016 14:28

Having a look at the www.massimodutti.com/gb/sale/leather/black-leather-biker-jacket-c1265509p7069033.html?colorId=800&categoryNav=1265509 one linked to here, from a Zara group, and to be honest it is not different enough at £165 (on sale!) to this one - also a Zara owned company Hmm www.stradivarius.com/gb/leather-biker-jacket/leather-biker-jacket-c0p7424159.html?colorId=001&origin=-1

My friend (big boobs, aged 38) bought one from the Mary portas range last year . She looks amazing in hers

ididntsignupforthis1 · 20/06/2016 15:20

So what are jaeger sizes like?

SuperFlyHigh · 20/06/2016 17:28

a biker is fab.

I did invest in a classic leather H&M one about 3-4 years ago but do All Saints if your budget stretches that far. or Mint Velvet. The Whistles leather bikers look nice too.

I think I've only seen MV and All Saints leathers in store.

SuperFlyHigh · 20/06/2016 17:29

OP - personally I would always invest more in a leather biker... just me. or leather in particular.

I've got a Nicole Farhi leather jacket which is so so lovely - present and cost about £500 but I would have paid that for it.

GrumpyMcGrumpFace · 20/06/2016 18:06

I will check those out, thanks Super.

now Mrs9C to me that one does look substantially different, and given my age I think would look a lot less good on me. 20 years or so ago, fine, now it doesn't do that continental chic and yet slightly edgy thing that I want (don't want much!! Wink) But thank you for the link, I do appreciate all suggestions (as do the others here I think!!) and it's always good to not spend too much. I definitely don't have £500 to spend, sadly!!

This Next one is beautiful. I've been lusting after it but can't afford it. Also £160.

pinkskyinthecity · 20/06/2016 22:13

I kinda like the Massimo Dutti one, but it's without pockets, so it's they made it more elegant than bikerish. I would want pockets on mine as it needs to be practical. I've now thought of having a collarless one that's not bikery, more in keeping with the look I'm trying to aim for: timeless and sophisticated. As I'm a 12/14 in the upper body, I don't think the bikery zip detailing on the front would be a good idea. If anyone would like to say otherwise, please do...And if there's one you can recommend, let me know. i'm particularly taken to the mother character in the French drama, 'The Disapperance'; she wears a really soft, tan number in that a lot.

Mrs9C · 20/06/2016 22:50

The Next one is the exact level of detailing I'm after. Not too many zips everywhere (pockets, arms, two on the front, etc), or studs. Love it! I am after black just now though, goes more with my colouring.
