Lush Henna attempt #2 will it get better?

I'm a very new Lush Henna user. I've had one go with it and found that it didn't cover the grey very well but I had read that it does have a cumulative effect and might be better with continued use.

After 2/3 weeks the Caca Brun colour faded really quickly and the grey really was coming through and I've now made a second application. The grey coverage seems a bit better this time.

Not sure if I can be faffed to reapply after 2/3 weeks. I've been a prisoner in the house this morning, sitting with a cling film cap and my DS' No Fear fluorescent lime green skull beanie on (not a great look !). I do love the initial colour but hope it doesn't fade after one or two washes this time.

Hoping that experienced or long time Lush Henna users will come along to assure me that it does indeed get better and the coverage will extend over time as the colour builds up?

I've said it on the other thread, lush is not proper henna. It's a temporary stain.
You need proper henna to cover grey. Look up henna for hair, she has a website dedicated to henna and has recipes for red henna, brown henna and black henna.

I use my henna (Lush) every 2 weeks at the moment (short hair, I use 3 cubes) .
It is a faff but now I'm on board I need to keep on top of the greys.....and it is so much softer than box dyes.

It is more conditioning than the powder hennas I've used before (used to use Bodyshop henna in the 80s)

I did read somewhere that you're meant to start with the rouge as a base then layer it up with darker.
I started with brun first then mixed brun:noire 50/50. Now I'm using 2 noire:1 brun and I'm still a bit coppery , no rouge for me

Mine faded very quickly too - it was very disappointing, as the Body Shop henna that I used a lot as a teen stayed intense for ages. I used the Lush one a couple of months ago (the browny red one) and I was back to normal within three or so weeks.

I might try the Daniel Field hair colours next.

agree, Lush henna is low quality stuff and not a high quality henna.

Maybe I have to accept that for the good colour and condition you just have to go through the pain. I also wonder that there could be a benefit on the gradual fading and that you don't get a harsh line? Perhaps a bit like a semi-permanent colour.

Interested in other colouring products but I don't want to be too red and 'real' henna concerns me a little bit there. A warm brown is enough for me I think.

I'll stick with the scary beanie look for a bit longer - god help the postman/Amazon delivery guy/meter guys. I don't think I can go back now to box colours anyway - can I?

I had an awful result with lush's caca brun too. No grey coverage at all and I left it on for 5 hours. I want to go back to normal dyes but don't know how long to leave it before it's safe.

madcapped I think I read somewhere else that you need to leave it at least a month. That comes with its own challenges though doesn't it? But having said that some people report being able to switch back immediately without any issues.

I kept it on today for 4.5 hours and I do think it has covered better. I made the mix this time a little more runnier than the recommended ketchup consistency. Not sure if that helped or not. The next challenge is to see if I can last more than 1 week without thinking that I need to reapply. 2 weeks I really did need to reapply but I held out for 3!

I never managed to get very good results with the Lush stuff. I don't know if the henna itself was poor quality or if all the extras like cocoa butter affect how well it colours or what. Whatever, the colour was never terribly bright and faded really quickly.

I now use body art quality henna (my current stock is from Henna Boy but I've also heard very good things about Hennacat) and it's brilliant. Much easier to mix as it's a very fine sifted powder so there's no faffing around with graters or anything. The colour I get is amazing and it doesn't fade at all.

I didn't love the colour it turned my dark brown hair. It was too orangey and dh hated the smell it left on my hair for ages. I did it the beginning of May so I should be safe then.

I never managed to even get lush henna to give my hair any colour at all as a teenager. I think it is just a bit crap. Proper henna is far better, I used to leave it on overnight! Really must get some, quite fancy a bit of henna.

I am going to try real henna. I agree, its more like a tint and doesnt last. I need something to dye my grey roots. Can someone please recommend me a good brand and mix?

I used to use Lush henna. Decent results as far as grey coverage went, but if did fade out fairly quickly. I used to leave it on overnight for the best results.

I'm using Daniel Field colour now and it's much easier, quicker and with far better results.

Neveradullmoment: get some rahjistani henna from Hennacat. Best I have ever used.
Mix it with lemon juice and leave at room temp over night( or 12 hours) to get dye release.
Leave it on your hair for at least 6 hours if covering grey.

Sanchar, what colour will it make my hair? What if i have lighter roots? will it even it out? Or do i have to do a root dye first?

What colour is your hair now? Mine is 50/50 brown and grey and it similar to this pic.

I just do my roots now but it all blends together fine with the older hair.

I wouldn't bother touching the roots up, it will honestly look the same all over if left on long enough.

My hair is darker than yours. I will see if i can post a picture but it will be of when it was dyed most recently with henna. I now have grey roots and a kind of gingery brown root combo!!!

Hair when it was dyed with lush henna. It has faded more to gingery /brown'/grey roots!!!

The thing is, i can't seem to get the root area to blend at all. Its really frustrating.

I really have no idea what i am doing with normal henna but would like to give it a go as i am fed up with dying it using lush and it just fading out like a wash out colour.

You could try using indigo. My sister uses it in her henna and has a lovely chestnut brown colour.

I like having flame hair so never tried indigo mixes, I don't know anything about it really so can't advise.
