fascinators?

Received a wedding invite which states that hats or fascinators are mandatory I can't wear either. I am short & shy with a weird face & fine hair, I would feel incredibly self conscious in some sprouting feathery creation. Can I get away with wearing a nice hair piece instead? A fancy hairband perhaps? Or where can I find something understated? Don't have much of a budget, no dress yet either but that's less problematic.

I got one from quiz last week for a wedding I went to t the weekend. I've never worn a fascinator before but it looked really good. Was £12.99! They had a huge selection and I was pleased as was going to buy something from accessorize which was £40! I just got a clip in one

What about a style like Princess Eugine wore on fri to the service for the Queen? If it is good enough to pass the queen then who else can complain
Also remember females should remove hats/head coverings after 6 pm
What a pain to be dictated to like that. People should let others dress as they like once it is clean not smelly or overly revealing

I was always taught that you should not remove your hat/fascinator until the mother of the bride removes hers. At that wedding I went to on Saturday she didn't remove hers at all so neither did I :)

I had to google that canyou do you mean the sort of navy bow thing? I like that, I could wear that. To a certain extent I think your wedding your rules but is it really necessary for me to wear a stupid feathery thing on my head? When DP & I get married I am going to insist everyone wears a cravat or something.

You can get some fab, non feathery fascinators on Etsy. They will be original too.

Was just about to suggest Etsy. Fascinators are really easy to make, too: you just need some haberdashery bits (John Lewis) and a hot glue gun.

Couldn't see much on the quiz website, will have a look at etsy. Do you think I can get away with a fancy hairband instead? Like this john lewis one?

They had loads in store, all different colours and different styles too. I didn't think i would ever find anything like that in there lol

Unless you're going to Ascot, where they specify the minimum size of the fascinatinor, I think the dress code means "something very smart that you wouldn't normally wear", with some kind of head piece. A nice hair clip (think Sam Cam at Kate and Will's wedding) would be good, but would you feel more self conscious if all the other women had big hats on?
