Plus size - bikini, tankinI or swimsuit?

I'm trying to decide what I should wear on the beach/by the pool for a girls holiday

I'm a size 18-20 bust size 40e - I plan on doing some.swimming but mostly sunning myself.

So should I go for a bikini, tankinI or swimsuit? And what type of colour/patterns look best?

I like all three options !! Which has made you feel best in the past? How about a nice tankini with a kaftan nearby if you want a cover up? M&S do some lovely swimsuits at the moment, lots of lovely floral patterns out too. But I think solid colour swimsuits are nice as well. Sorry I haven't helped there at all. Whatever makes you feel good is best.

Hi, go and try on some different styles. Bravissimo are great, they have lots of different styles and nice cover ups too.

JennyOnAPlate · 07/06/2016 14:38

I'm size 20 and 40dd. I wear tankinis...I bought a couple last year from sainsburys of all places and really like them.

AuntieMaggie · 07/06/2016 15:49

Is patterned or plain better?

what about this?

It might just be my droopy boobs (34FF), but I don't think I could wear that as it doesn't look very supportive.

Bravissimo do some lovely ones. I love Freya bikinis. I haven't tried their other swimwear but worth a go.

AuntieMaggie · 07/06/2016 15:59

or this?

this?

this?

I really like the bright animal print ones but they're out of stock

lady I'm not sure i could either to be honest. I'll have a look at bravissimo now but trying to do most of my shopping online as it's easier than trying to shop with a toddler!

I got a Lascana tankini from Curvissa last year (done in bra sizes I think) and it was pricey (£50ish) but so worth it. They have a good discount if it's your first order too

Out2pasture · 07/06/2016 16:17

I'm a similar size op. I went with a tankini.
Solid black miracle suit brief. With a black and white large print tankini top in my bra size.

I felt most comfortable in a blouson style tankini when I went on holiday last year. I will be getting the same style this year. They are looser around your tummy area so I felt less self conscious about my wobbly belly. Also, when I was laid down sunbathing I just pulled the top up a bit to get some sun on my tummy.

Just a thought about tops. I find large boobs and halter necks do not go together. I know they are supposed to be flattering but I just end up with neck pain from the weight.

MiniCooperLover · 07/06/2016 17:19

Definitely needs to be under wired and normal straps- halters hurt my neck and back too much.

dementedpixie · 07/06/2016 17:29

I got this curvykate one last year

AuntieMaggie · 07/06/2016 17:30

Ok so underwired tankinI... thank you. Just need to decide on pattern/colour and style bottoms Grin

AuntieMaggie · 07/06/2016 17:54

You'll need a bikini , no one wears swim suits or tankinins .

ThornyBird · 07/06/2016 18:06

How tall are you op? I find tankinis leave a perfect gap to allow a roll of belly to hang out attractively between top and bottoms...

My preference is a bra style bikini top with high leg bottoms.

I am a 5ft10 hourglass with thunderous thighs so the 50s shorts stop as my legs flare so I avoid them too. 36G on top, size 18 on bottom.

dementedpixie · 07/06/2016 18:08

I don't find rankings flattering either so wear bra top and bottoms

dementedpixie · 07/06/2016 18:09

Tankinis *

No one Kr1stina? Hmm

animaniac · 07/06/2016 18:14

I'm a size 16-18, bra 38G and I'm going with bikinis for my holiday next week. Tried umpteen underwired tankinis over the years but not a single one has ever given proper boob support - end up feeling more self conscious about droopy boobs falling out than I do about having my tummy on show in a bikini. Best bikinis so far are the Fantasie ones, bra style straps (ie not halter necks)

DerelictMyBalls · 07/06/2016 18:23

Bikini, definitely. The only way to get a nice, brown tum!
