So it's holiday time. I have a 5yr old redhead and we are off to Spain for a week. For quality purposes I shop at JL for high protection rash vest. I see a funky coloured set with 40spf protection in her size. Great I think until I take to the till and find It's a 3 part set and the extra piece is a triangle bikini top! I did not want that and she most certainly won't be wearing it. In the first instance I'm buying for sun protection so why on earth advertise high protection then give an item that barely covers her at all?!! And secondly she's 5, should they really be producing such skimpy clothing for that age group???
I told the shop assistant how appalled I was and am considering writing a letter of disapproval....

I do think little girls in bikinis look a bit odd but I disagree that it's sexual, it's just personal preference for parents and children.

Oh so it's not the bikini top per se it's any top on little girls? That would not be worn by little boys?

I think you may find your view is a tad unusual.

Have you also complained about the skirts and dresses they sell too?

It's very clearly labelled as a three piece set. They have other rash vests and shorts combinations or separate sales (agree with pp, btw, that it might be a good idea to get UV jammer-style shorts as well, given what you say about your DD's skin).

The 3 piece combo goes right up to age 12.

You might think it's the wrong call to include all the younger age groups, but it's not an inappropriate set for a children's wear department when you look at all the ages it aims to cater for.
